Letters To My Son – December 2013

Dear Nick,

I think I’m going to sound like a broken record here, but you spent all of November sick.  Why do I keep having to say that?  I’ve been writing these letters to you for almost a year now and I think there’s only a letter or two where I didn’t tell you that you had been sick or teething.  Why???  This one has been quite a headache.  I mean that physically too.  You’re head hurt so bad at times that you would become hysterical if I even tried to brush your hair!  It started just before Halloween with what I believe was croup and you just keep getting a cold on top of it.  That or it’s a sinus infection, but it’s really hard to tell.  Whatever the cause I’ve had to keep you home from school a lot, and you have become extremely moody, which is driving me nuts, so I hope it goes away very soon!

November went by really fast. For the most part it wasn’t an eventful month except for one big event. On the 16th your Great-Grandma (Daddy’s Grandma) passed away. It sadly doesn’t mean much to you because you only met her once when you were a month old. She was an amazing woman (in fact your middle name is in honor of her), but she had Alzheimer’s. By the time you were born she wasn’t even fully sure who Mommy and Daddy were, and she never understood who you were. She was 90, so she had lead a nice long life, but I wish you could have truly gotten to know her.

You took some big steps towards growing up this month. The first thing was that you gave up naps. How you went from 3 hour naps to nothing I’ll never know (and boy do I miss them), but you were ready. With naps gone we decided to take another big step by moving you from your crib into a big boy bed. It’s really just your crib with the front off, but you love it, and you’re so proud to be in it. The transition went really well. In fact I think it was easier than moving you from your swing to the crib. The first night you were so cute. When I put you in the bed you told me that it was broken, and when I had you all tucked in you started wiggling and told me that you were stuck.

Your favorite things right now are Peanuts (as in Charlie Brown and Snoopy) and Planes. You LOVE Disney’s Planes. We have to play them all the time and you are rarely seen without your Dusty and Skipper. You are constantly talking right now which is a lot of fun, but I could do without the no, no, nos, with attitude no less, that you are becoming fond of.

You also have become quite the little helper. You like to stand on a chair and help us cook. You also like to help me fold the laundry. It’s so cute to hear your little voice say, “My help you.”  Of course, with the laundry, it’s adorable to watch you hold something that needs folding, look at it, and then set it down. That’s usually followed with a , “Ta-da!” which has become a new favorite saying of yours.

As fast as the last few months have been I know this month will really fly by because we have so much to do. Our calendar is full of parties. I can’t wait for Christmas though to give you your present. I bought it back in February when I found out it was being discontinued. It’s a huge Interactive Chuggington train set. You are going to flip when you see it. I even just found the last few cars for it on Amazon and ordered them for you for Easter. That’s your Mommy for you. It’s not even Christmas and I’m already thinking of Easter and your birthday!
