With freezing cold temperatures, and snow all around, it is hard to believe that it is time to start thinking of Thomas the Train coming coming back to The Henry Ford, but it’s time! Of course the best way to kick off Thomas’s visit is with a giveaway!

Win a Family of Four ticket package to Day Out with Thomas: The Friendship Tour 2017 at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, MI.

This will be the 5th year that we’ll be attending Day Out with Thomas. We sadly were out of town for most of the time that Thomas was here last year and weren’t able to go. Nick hasn’t let me forget it! Never mind that we went on vacation to celebrate his birthday. He has already been talking for weeks about going to visit Thomas again.

I always feel that we’re so lucky that Thomas comes to visit us at Greenfield Village which is part of The Henry Ford. That way we not only get to have some fun seeing Thomas, but we get to have a fun outing that lasts all day.

I have visited Greenfield Village so many times that I have lost count, but visiting the historic homes and buildings is always fun and exciting. It is amazing how much history is tucked into that little area in Dearborn.

Day Out with Thomas: The Friendship Tour 2017

Day Out with Thomas: The Friendship Tour 2017 presented by Mattel at Greenfield Village is truly a fun and exciting event for the entire family. Of course the highlight of the event is for kids to get to see Thomas and to take a ride with him, but there is always so much going on.

Besides getting to walk around and enjoy the history found in Greenfield Village there are also fun train themed activities that take place all day. The highlight for Nick is always seeing the large model train set-up that is put on by The Detroit Historical Society. He loves watching the trains so much that we always have to drag him out of the building to go do other things!

Now in it’s 22nd year the Day Out with Thomas tour will stop in 42 different cities in the U.S. and Canada during 2017. It is expected that Thomas will give a ride to nearly one million passengers during that time!

Thomas will be visiting Greenfield Village for three back-to-back weekends starting April 29.  During that time families can take a 25 minute ride around the Village on their favorite engine, meet Sir Topham Hatt, and enjoy the Thomas & Friends themed activities.

This year’s theme is friendship, so there are a lot of special friendship-inspired activities planned for the kids to participate in. Attendees will be able to participate in events that encourage and celebrate friendship including photo opportunities, crafts, and a fun activity that invites kids to collect passport stamps throughout the day to receive a trio of Day Out With Thomas friendship bracelets.

One thing that I was really excited to hear about is that April 29th will be a special Sensory Friendly Saturday. Designed for guests on the autism spectrum and with other sensory processing disorders, Greenfield Village will have an early opening at 8:00 am with Day Out With Thomas Depot Town activities beginning at 8:30 am and a quiet area with activities available all day in Town Hall. Noise-cancelling headphones and earplugs will be available along with a social narrative created by the Autism Alliance of Michigan showing what families might see, hear, smell and touch. The 9:30 am ride that day will be exclusively for Sensory Friendly Saturday guests. Tickets for this special opportunity are only available by calling the Call Center at 313-982-6001.

Thomas the Tank Engine rides begin at 9:30am and depart every 30 minutes through 4:30 pm every day, and they will depart rain or shine. Tickets for the Day Out with Thomas: The Friendship Tour are $11.75 for members. For non-members the prices are $38.75 for adults ages 12-61, $36.25 for seniors 62 and up, $32.00 for youth ages 3-11 and $11.75 for children two and under. Thomas will be at Greenfield Village on April 29-30, May 6-7 and 13-14.

Tickets are on sale now by calling The Henry Ford at 313-982-6001 or visiting www.thehenryford.org.
