Keep Your Valuables Safe
This is a partnered post.
I grew-up in a small town, and now I live in a different small town (OK, now I just sound like that song). Living in such places has always made me feel safe. Never mind that both of those homes have been close to prisons, and we had quite a few escapees in our woods when we were kids, still I don’t worry much about bad things happening. Our last home was in a much larger city, and while it was safe enough, I still felt I needed to keep my door locked at all times. Now I don’t feel that way. This is a kind of place where your door is always open. That being said you should always take precautionary methods because bad things can happen anywhere.
When my mother was a teenager her house got robbed. They still don’t know who did it, but they figure it was someone that knew the family well enough to know their plans. It happened while the whole family was at a high school basketball game. They took things that a teenager would be likely to take such as my mother’s new stereo along with all of her cassette tapes (remember those things?). Luckily nothing terribly valuable was taken. In fact my mother was far more worried about her dog (since the front door had been left open) than anything else. The dog was fine by the way.
My great-aunt on the other hand was not so lucky many years ago when her house was robbed. The thieves got away with valuable and irreplaceable items. My great-grandmother (my great-aunt’s mom) passed away before my aunt had graduated from high school. When she passed away my aunt, being the only daughter, got a lot of her stuff. One item she got was a very special ring, and it was one of the items that was stolen. To the thieves it was just money, but it was so much more to my aunt, and loosing it was devastating.
There are bad people out there, and they do bad things. As much as I would love to think that all people are good we are constantly reminded that there are desperate and unbalanced people that don’t care about what terrible things they do to others. While I hope that you never have to go through the horror of loosing something important to you it never hurts to be prepared. It’s like getting insurance. You don’t want to think you’ll need it, but it’s nice to know you have it just in case. There are many ways you can keep your valuables safe. You can keep them hidden in strategically hidden areas or you could even add extra security and get something like a secure luxury jewelry safe. Just choose what makes the most sense for you and your family, and what makes you feel safest. Whatever you do I hope you never have a need to worry about it!
What tricks do you have for keeping your valuables safe?

Gotta have a good safe.
We have a fire proof box…but I guess they could just pick that up and take off with it. But we also have young kids…so we have nothing too nice! LOL
We have a fire proof too, but that’s it for us as well. I’ve always worried about my good jewelry though.
