Sharing is caring!

November 7, 2014
Dear Nick,
Well, October was a months of ups and downs. We did a lot of fun things, but the month had a lot of sad points too. We started the month with a memorial service. Uncle Mike’s mom passed away in the summer and it was finally time for everyone to say their goodbyes to G-Ma. I know you won’t remember her. The only time you got to meet her was when you were only a few days old. You do have two special blankets that she made for you and you still use them every day. While the memorial was sad (and on a side note you were so good for it!) the nice part was that your cousins came into town for it. We only get to see them about once or twice a year, so it’s always fun when they they’re here!

You also were sick for a lot of October. I honestly thought you were going to continue your record of always being sick for Halloween, and having it last through Christmas, but you actually got over it. It was so nice to have you healthy for Halloween, but the weather that night was so awful that we didn’t really get to enjoy it. You were so excited to go out, but after about five houses you were done. I was freezing right along with you, so I wasn’t upset that you were done
at all! We probably hit about 10 houses or so in the end (we finished the part of road we were on and hit the houses on the other side on our way back), and we were both glad to get inside. The weather that night had been cold, and windy, and a bit rainy. It really was awful. You had a great time handing out candy to the kids that did come by though, so you really didn’t care that you weren’t out yourself. Of course you still ended up with a ton of candy. Since Halloween had been on Friday I had really stocked up, and then the weather kept a lot of kids away, so even though we were giving out multiple pieces at a time we still had a few bags left!

There was some nice weather in October that allowed us to do fun things though. A week before Halloween we had trick-or-treat in town and the weather was so nice! You had a great time, but it requires standing in crazy long lines, so after about 30 minutes you had had enough of that. On Sunday of the same weekend the weather was gorgeous, so we took you for some hiking in the woods. We all had the best time! You were pretty worn out after about 1 mile of walking, but we carried you some towards the end. We ended up hiking for a good 2 miles. After we were done we drove 10 minutes into town to get our afternoon coffee, but you were so exhausted that you were asleep long before we reached town!

Besides the memorial October had some other sad points too. First we had to say goodbye to Grandma and Grandpa since they went back to Florida for the fall. Luckily we will see them again for Christmas. We also had to say goodbye to Uncle David because he headed back to Colorado for the winter and we likely won’t see him again until around your birthday. We certainly hope we don’t see him until then. If we see him before then it’s probably because he got hurt or is terribly sick again, and we don’t want that! Also, at the end of the month our kitty Oliver got really sick. I’ll probably mention it again next month since it ran into November, but he got so sick that we had to put him down this week. You’re still so lost in your own little 3 year old world that you haven’t noticed that he’s gone, but Mommy and Dodger have both been very sad this week.

It’s safe to say that October was a bit of an emotional roller coaster. So much happened in such few days. I’d say that I’d like November to be less eventful, but the month already started off on a sad note. I suppose we should just hope for the rest of the year to be better to end this really bad year on a better note!
Love,
Mommy
