Nick’s First Vacation: The House Of The Mouse (Part 1)
My alarm went off at 7:00. We all had needed a good nights sleep, but that was as late as I felt I could sleep. We had a priority seating reservation for that afternoon at The Rainforest Cafe, and I was not about to miss it. I had thought that my alarm would wake Nick, but he was so exhausted that he slept right through it. I got up and headed into the bathroom to get ready for the day.
When I was done I walked out of the bathroom to find Nick awake in his crib. I had planned on getting him dressed before going to breakfast, but he was too hungry to wait, so I grabbed him and my backpack and we headed down the hall to the continental breakfast. When we got there I pulled up a high chair to one of the little tables and attempted to put Nick in it, but he was still a bit freaked out over his surroundings and would have none of it, so I lugged him with me to get his food. I figured I’d get him interested in eating and the I’d get my food. As soon as we sat down he started eating some Froot Loops while I poured milk into his sippy cup. When I was down he grabbed the cup (he’s always thirsty in the morning). Well the obnoxious cup decided to not work!
I couldn’t believe the cup was giving us trouble again. I felt awful that he was screaming during other people’s breakfast, but at least this time I was being given sympathetic looks. Like the day before I fixed the cup, but Nick was too upset to use it again. Since I couldn’t get him to calm down I took the only option left for me…escape! I scooped Nick and his breakfast up and made a mad dash back to our room. Then I settled him on the bed watching Disney Junior and left him with Jason while I went back to get us some breakfast.
When I got back with the food I sat down on the bed to have breakfast with Nick while Jason went to take a shower. You could tell Nick was frustrated and over tiered because he still wouldn’t eat well. I did get him to take a little yogurt, but then he tried to take a drink and the dang cup didn’t work again! Of course then he got all upset once more. I tried giving him some Froot Loops, but he just knocked them all over the bed. Then I grabbed for the little box of cereal that I had taken from the car the night before.
Nick had eaten a few pieces of cereal before I realized that in my stress and exhaustion I had given him Honey Nut Cheerios! We only know of Nick having an egg allergy, but many kids with egg allergies also have some kind of nut allergy, so we’ve been advised to avoid all nut products until he’s two. I turned the box over and saw that the allergy warning was for almonds. Then I waited with baited breath. When no reaction appeared I allowed Nick to have some more. Thankfully he did just fine with them, so now we know he isn’t allergic to almonds!
With the way the morning was going I wasn’t surprised that after only a few minutes of eating Cheerios Nick got fussy again. He still needed to be changed for the day, so I put him through that torture while he was already upset.
Then I found that he would stay calm if he was in his stroller, so I put him in it and parked it between the two beds so he could keep watching Disney Junior. That bought Jason and I enough time to finish getting ready and get all of our stuff packed up. Then we grabbed all of our stuff, took on last glance around the room to make sure we hadn’t left anything, and headed out to the car.
To Be Continued….

I love reading this. It bring back all the good things that happen on the trip.
