Encouraging Our Kids To Fly

Sharing is caring!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of New York Life for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I come from a very close family.  We love doing things together and we help each other out all the time.  When I have a question my mother is almost always the first person I turn to.  My family support doesn’t end there though.  My grandparents and my aunts and uncles have all been there for me as well.

I entered college with the goal to get my degree in Musical Theatre.  I had spent much of my senior year of high school auditioning for different schools and had gotten into more than one.  A performing degree is not an easy path to follow, but my family showed me nothing but faith and support.  Two years later they continued to support me when I decided to change my field of study and go for a teaching certification.  They probably were breathing a sign of relief at the time, but who would have known the teaching job market would be so bad?

It’s been just over five years since I graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Language Arts and with my teaching certificate.  On the day I graduated I never would have guessed that I would use my degree for writing instead of teaching.  I know a lot of people, some of my family included, don’t understand the life of a blogger.  The concept of someone legitly making money online is hard for many to grasp.  Still my family fully stands behind me, and they do all they can to help.  Whether it’s watching Nick so I can get work done, or helping me make food or put a craft together, they are always there continuing to show me their faith and support.

It’s amazing what we can accomplish when we have love, support, and people that help give us the tools that we need to succeed.  We can all help our children by just giving them those basic things.  I certainly hope I can be as supportive of Nick, and give him what he needs to succeed, as my family has been for me, and as the parents in the video above were for their daughter.

I love that My All-Star Daughter clip.  Those parents gave their daughter only a few things, and yet she was able to accomplish so much.  It really doesn’t take much to help our kids feel that they can do anything they put their mind to.  Learn more about how New York Life can help you and your family Keep Good Going.
