Well Monkey, today is your first birthday. Happy birthday! One year ago today was one of the best days of my life. I’ll never forget when they first put you in my arms and I finally got to see what you looked like. You were so small and perfect. It was almost a shock that you were actually there, and now it’s a whole year later.
The past year has been the best one of my life. I don’t think Dad and I could have ever guessed just how much joy you would bring to us. We love seeing your smile and hearing you laugh. I don’t think there has been a day yet when one of us doesn’t comment on how great you are.
It has been amazing watching you grow and change over the past twelve months. We’re always so proud when you develop a new skill. In fact we’ve been applauding them all the time lately. Just three days ago we got very excited when you sat up for the first time. Of course you didn’t do it the way we had been trying to teach you, rolling to the side and pushing up with your hand. No, you had to do it the way you had been trying to make it happen for months…by doing a sit up! You always do things in your own time and in your own way.
I hope you have a wonderful day and a great time at your first party. Don’t make too big of a mess with your special egg free cake. You know how the food messes drive Mama nuts ;-).
May this be only the first of so many wonderful years to come. A part of me wishes that I could keep you small forever, but I also can’t wait to see how you continue to grow and change. I am so proud of you Monkey, and I always will be.
