A House Of Our Own

Sharing is caring!

A year ago today we closed on our house.  In many ways it’s hard for me to comprehend that we’ve been living in our house for almost a year (we couldn’t move in on closing day).  At the same time I can’t believe how much we’ve accomplished in the last year.  A year ago I was pregnant, we were days away from finding out if we were going to have a boy or girl, and we were getting ready to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary.  Add to that the stress of moving and you have a crazy busy December.

A lot about our house has changed.  Before we could move in we had to replace part of the roof (and then another part days after we moved in after a huge leak during a rainstorm), we had to have a huge hole patched up in the dinning room ceiling, and we had to have plumbing leaks fixed.  Now, a year later, almost every room has been repainted, ceiling fans have been installed so wires no longer hang down from the ceilings, and all of the electrical plugs are actually grounded.  Truly that only skims the surface of what has been done.  Our really old, bank owned, home needed a lot of help, but over the past year we have done a lot of work and have made it our home.  Don’t get me wrong, there are still a lot of things that need to be done, but we made a massive dent into the work over the past year.

I think it’s safe to say though that the biggest change over the past year was the addition of Nick, and it was because of him that we moved.  We love being parents and we’re so glad we moved before Nick came.  By moving we were able to put a nursery together which was so much fun.  If we hadn’t moved I never would have gotten to do that because Nick wouldn’t have had his own room.  Moving also turned out to be good because I have no idea where we would have put all of Nick’s stuff in our small, two bedroom, townhouse.

I couldn’t be happier with the house we chose.  We’ve got lots of plans for it and I can’t wait to see how it changes in the future.
