Another One Down
As hard as it is to believe another holiday weekend is over. It was a bit of an odd one for sure. I don’t think many of us got through the weekend without feeling some strong emotions over the shooting. I also think many of us spent time asking, “why,” and working on finding a way to come to grips with what happened.
On Friday night we had the day care Christmas party. The party was to start at 6:30. I didn’t think Nick would make it that long until dinner, plus I wasn’t sure what there would be for him to eat, so we stated off the evening with a trip to McDonald’s. That ended up being an odd dinner for me because they had a T.V. that I could clearly see from my seat, and it was set to a news channel that was showing information about the shooting. That was the first point that I had heard any details about it, and the thought of it just turned my stomach.
At the start of the party everyone came in with their dishes of to pass and we chowed down. Once everyone was done eating it was singing time. I thought it would be an all group sing like at my mother-in-law’s Christmas party, but it actually was the kids putting on a little Christmas concert. Nick didn’t do so well as he wouldn’t sit down and just kept wandering around. At one point the kids were screaming (yes, I mean screaming) Rudolph, and it really upset Nick, so I had to go get him and ended up getting stuck at the front with the kids for the rest of the concert. Eventually Nick did calm down though and started to participate some by ringing his jingle bells. I think I may be in trouble when the school years hit though. There’s a very good chance that I’m going to be the mom of the little boy that has way too much energy and can’t sit down and concentrate.
Like the weekend before Nick had a great time and when we arrived home around 8:00 he still had a ton of energy. Of course he had to have play time. I think he would have stayed up playing for hours if I had let him. He had to get some sleep though because Saturday was another big day.
Saturday was the day of birthday parties. First we went to my aunt’s to celebrate my grandmother’s birthday. We had a nice and quiet brunch at my aunt’s house. Nick was in a wonderful mood and was very good. He really had a good time playing and just being with the adults.
Later in the afternoon we left to go to the first birthday party of one of my friend’s son. Mom and I had hoped that Nick would nap on the way, but he only slept for about fifteen minutes. That was not nearly long enough, but it was all that he was willing to give us. Luckily he was still in a great mood, and the lack of sleep really didn’t effect him (until later). He was especially a happy boy because he got to eat pizza, and they let all of the kids take home a balloon.
On Sunday we rested some, but mostly I wrapped. I am very happy to announce that not only is my Christmas shopping done, but my wrapping is as well! Now we just have to gear ourselves to up to get through this coming weekend which is beyond nuts!
