Well, our first crazy Christmas celebration weekend is officially over. Of course this was the least crazy of them all. The craziness only increases from here.
Honestly the weekend started off a bit strange. Nick had cried all day at daycare on Thursday, and he felt a bit warm. On Friday I picked him up and found out that he had had a rough day again. He was asleep when I got there, and when we woke up he was a mess. Screaming and flailing and nothing on Earth could calm him. He also had been asleep without a blanket or shoes and socks on, and yet he was reallyhot. I called the doctor right away and made an appointment for Saturday morning. He had been coughing since his cold around Halloween and I was worried that he might have developed bronchitis again. He was so upset though that I was wondering how we would make it to the next morning.
As the evening progressed Nick started to act like he didn’t feel so bad. We had gone to my mom’s and after dinner Nick was running around and having the best time. I kept telling him that the doctors were going to laugh at me the next morning because he didn’t appear to be sick at all. Well, I got up early on Saturday so we could go to the doctors, and wouldn’t you know that I woke up a very happy, and not sick, Nick. I called the doctors office, but it seems that the office doesn’t answer the phones on Saturdays (I must say I was not happy to learn that), so the lady working the on call line was nice enough to fax my information over to the office to let them know that we weren’t coming (still have everything crossed that we’re not charged for a no show).
Since we were up and around early we were able to make a Christmas shopping run to get Jason the only present he wanted and that I was having the worst time finding (I had seen online that the store where I got it only had one left in stock). Mom had been out for the morning as well, so we decided to meet up and do the Christmas shopping for the kids that the daycare had adopted.
After shopping we came back home and had a very nice afternoon. Nick had a good lunch, played a little, and then took a two hour nap. When he woke up we played for awhile and he was having the best time. His nose had started running again, but for the most part he didn’t appear to be terribly sick. Certainly he wasn’t go to the doctor sick. I fed Nick an early dinner, and I had a little snack, before going to my Mother-in-Law’s for the Christmas party since I wasn’t sure how much of the food would be egg free (plus 7:00 would be way to late for him to wait to eat). While I cleaned up he kept playing. In fact he was having so much fun that he was not at all happy about having to leave.
We arrived at the start of the party. This worked really well for Nick because it gave him time to adjust to more and more people arriving. He had a difficult time with seeing all of the people from the daycare (even his grandmother and uncle). He kept giving them these funny looks that you could tell said, “What are you doing here? This isn’t where you should be!” We joked all night about the kids thinking that all of the teachers lived at the daycare which is especially funny since Nick’s uncle actually lives in the apartment above it!
Nick hasn’t always done well with big crowds, but he had no problems at the party. In fact he had the best time. He ran all over and didn’t care if there were strange people in his way. There was even a time or two when he couldn’t get through and decided to get down and crawl instead. Of course he’s still at that age where no one cared if he got in there way because they all thought that he was too cute. We ended the evening singing carols. Nick loves music, so he very much enjoyed having his own personal choir. He kept clapping and saying yay. He was so busy at the party that I was sure he’d pass out in the car, but he was still wide awake when we got home. He didn’t end up falling asleep until around 10:00
Not surprising I had a very tired boy on Sunday (especially since he really wanted to wake up and play with Mommy and Daddy at 5:45 and we made him go back to sleep). It turned out to be a slower paced day than I had expected since we had finished up our Christmas shopping the day before (woohoo!). It turned out to be a good thing too since Nick spent a large amount of the day sleeping, and boy did he need it.
One weekend down, two more to go!
