I simply cannot believe that my baby is now two! Where has the time gone? In honor of his big day I’ve decided to do a memory walk to look back at his second year.

Nick had a fun time at his Mickey Mouse First Birthday party. The weather was cool, but it was nice and sunny.
May was a lot of fun. During the first weekend Nick’s cousins came up from Ohio and we took all of the kids to see Thomas the Train at Greenfield Village. The kids all had the best time. I can’t wait to take Nick to see Thomas again this week!
Later in the month the daycare held a big party for all of the kids in the infant room. All of the kids in the room were turning one within three months of each other, so they threw a first birthday party for all of them.
In June we finally were able to get Nick in to see the allergist and his egg allergy was officially confirmed. We didn’t even have to wait for the full test time to be done before a reaction could be seen. It was such a relief to finally have it documented and to get epipens just in case.
In June we also went back to Greenfield Village (Nick just loves going there). This time Daddy got to go with us. We had such a wonderful day!
After that things really calmed down for a few months. We enjoyed our time during the summer. Nick and I got outside a lot. We would walk 3 miles during the morning and sometimes another two miles in the evening. Taking Nick out for an evening walk was how we got him to finally give up the bottle. Towards the end of August Nick shocked us one morning by finally crawling. It wasn’t a timid crawl either. It honestly was one moment he didn’t crawl and the next moment he was speed crawling across the living room. He became a much happier boy once he was able to crawl since it allowed him to get to things he wanted. In May and September he attempted walking, and he could do it some, but he’s a little perfectionist. Since he couldn’t do it 100% he just decided he wouldn’t do it, so he stuck to crawling for a few more months.

The fall brought tons of excitement when we took Nick on his first vacation. We took a one week cruise on the Disney Fantasy to the Western Caribbean. The trip had its moments, but overall we had the best time. Nick was in seventh heaven getting to meet his favorite characters. It was over way too soon and I can’t wait for a chance to take him again.
Not long after we got home it was time for Halloween. This year I dressed my little monkey up like a monkey! Jason had to work, so we didn’t have much of a chance to go trick-or-treating, but Nick had fun helping me pass out candy. By this point Nick was fully walking and he was all over the place. I took him outside for a moment while I gave out candy and he took off down the driveway!
The holidays are always busy for us. Parties, birthdays, and family time galore! The holidays are always fun, but they’re even better with Nick around. As crazy as things were during we still had a great time.
Things calmed down once the holidays were done. The winter this year seemed long, and it was especially cold. I tried to get Nick outside some, but he was not a fan of the cold and snow (although I’m not either). In fact when it was snowing Nick would point it out and say, “snow,” then if you asked him if he liked the snow he’d say, “no!”
Valentine’s weekend was a lot of fun. Nick’s daycare had a party on Valentine’s Day and then went to a place called Jungle Java the day after. I was lucky enough to be able to be with Nick for both things. I love being able to do fun things like that with him (even if he didn’t have the best time at Jungle Java).
I’m always a huge fan of Easter. Last year Nick enjoyed Easter although he really didn’t understand anything. I thought this year would be even better, but it was ruined by evil two year molars. Nick was in so much pain that he didn’t care about anything although lots of pain meds helped him at least enjoy the evening with the family.
When Easter was over April arrived and the countdown to Nick’s second birthday was on. His second year had flown by! It had been a fun year though full of lots of great memories. We had one last fun experience before it was over though. We got to go to the Hands on Museum for a birthday party. Nick had a fantastic time!
I already can’t wait to see what fun and amazing things Nick’s third year will bring!
