Nick’s First Vacation: At Sea (Part 3)

Sharing is caring!

As soon as I was sure Nick was good and asleep I grabbed my phone and room key and headed down the hall to get mom.  Then we went to get Cecile so we could head up to the Cove Cafe to get our specialty coffees.  I do love my coffee breaks.  I didn’t have any trouble giving things up during my pregnancy, but I could not give up my daily coffee (although I did cut it back to one cup a day).  One of the most relaxing parts of the day on the ship for me is drinking my coffee in the afternoon.  Drinking it at the Cafe is even nicer, but that day we were getting the coffees to go so we could take drinks back to share with the guys.  We didn’t want them to feel that they were stuck in the rooms watching the kids while the girls got to enjoy themselves.

When we got to the Cafe we took a minute to look over the menu before placing our orders.  They had a few different choices to choose from, many with alcohol, but I was very happy to stick to with my good old mocha.  While we waited for the coffees to be made we taste tested many of the different pastries that they had available (yum!).  When the drinks were ready we gathered them all up (Cecile had actually packed a drink carrier from McDonald’s that came in very handy) and headed back to the staterooms.

Chris and Cecile’s room was actually a connecting room to ours which came in very nice for hanging out.  Since Nick was napping in our room (and their little ones weren’t) we all went over to their room.  We left their side of the connecting door open so we could easily peek our heads into our room to check on Nick.  We spent about an hour enjoying our coffees and talking and then we decided that we needed to start getting around for dinner so we dispersed to our own rooms.

That night was the Captain’s Dinner, so it was considered formal night.  Since we were all going to be dressed up we had decided to do our family portraits that night.  Due to the crazy wind that day my hair was pretty messy, so I decided to take a shower to look nice for the pictures.  Of course the fact that Nick was still asleep made it much easier to accomplish.

When I was done with my shower Nick was still out cold.  The problem was that I needed to dry my hair.  The special plug for the hair dryer was at the desk, which was right next to where Nick was sleeping.  I didn’t want to wake him up, but I needed to get my hair dry, so I headed down the hall to use mom’s dryer (a bonus of traveling with other people).  I had just finished my hair when Jason arrived with an awake and very happy Nick in tow.  We didn’t have a lot of free time for Nick to play, but we let him roam mom’s room for a few minutes.  The we gathered him up and headed back to our room to change for our pictures and dinner.

Our dinner time was 5:45, so we had decided to do family pictures at 5:00.  I had noticed on The Navigator that Chip and Dale would be out for pictures at 4:30.  Since that wasn’t long before we were supposed to be ready I had hoped to make it down to see them.  I was still waiting for Nick’s fist character experience.  Nick had ended his nap just early enough for us to get dressed in time to go see Chip and Dale. I had wanted his first character to be Mickey, but Nick is also a huge Chip and Dale fan.  Every time he sees them on T.V. he cracks up.  If we couldn’t see Mickey first than they were a very good choice for his first character meet and greet.

Mom, Nick, and I were all ready to go just after 4:30.  Jason was still finishing getting ready, but I didn’t want to wait for him and end up not being able to get in the character line again.  We told Jason to finish up and come join us as soon as he was ready.  We headed down to the lobby, but when we got there we didn’t see any characters.  Then we noticed that Chip and Dale were posing for pictures up a deck on the balcony that overlooks the lobby.  You should have seen us book it to the elevators (luckily the main ones were right there).  We were not about to miss the line.  We got off the elevators and walked as fast as we could (in high heels pushing a stroller no less) to get in line.  For the first time that trip we were in time to see the characters!
