Think about soundproofing

One of the most important things you’ll have to do when designing your new family game room is soundproof it, since the last thing you want to do is bother your neighbors and family. Not only this, but soundproofing can help you improve sound quality within the room, which can be extremely important if you and your kids plan to play tabletop games. Luckily, soundproofing your game room shouldn’t be too difficult. You can start by adding some extra framing to ceiling and walls and use insulating foam that has been specifically designed to control noise. Adding a carpet and curtains can help as well.

Set a theme

Choosing the right furniture and decoration for your game room is never going to be easy. However, if you come up with a team you and your family will love, you’ll make the entire process much easier. Moreover, this will help you create a social vibe that every game room needs. When it comes to choosing the theme, you’ll have so many options to choose from. For example, you can go for sports, western or log cabin. Talk to your kids and see which theme they like the best. Once you decide on a theme, it would be a good idea to take a look at some examples online and get a clearer picture of how your new game room is supposed to look.

Tips for Creating a Family Game Room

Focus on comfort

Even though establishing a playful environment in your new game room is critical, you’ll also want to make it as comfy as possible. Do this and you and your kids will be guaranteed to enjoy every second you spend in the room which used to be your basement. It’s recommended that you go for cushioned sofas and accent chairs. You may also want to think about recliners so that you and your kids could sit with your feet up while you’re playing a game or watching a movie. If you need some extra seating options, bean bags are something you simply can’t go wrong with. Last but not least, a large area rug is always going to help you make the entire room feel cozier.

How to Create a Family Game Space

Get an air conditioner

With so many people in the game room, you’re most definitely going to need an air conditioner. Getting an air conditioner means you and your kids will be able to enjoy using your new game room even during the hottest of days. And with Frigidaire air conditioners gaining in popularity, you’ll probably want to think about getting one of these. Just remember that you’ll need to find experts who’ll help you install it. It’s also important to mention that basements tend to get pretty damp and an air conditioner will help you ensure that the moisture doesn’t damage your consoles and other pieces of technology.

Make use of every corner

When designing a room like this, you’ll always want to make use of every corner. If you manage to do this, you and your kids will be able to do different things and keep the conversation going. Not to mention that with so many things in your game room, breaking the ice when talking to your guests will be much easier. And there are so many things you can put into your new game room. For example, a shelf stocked with all kinds of board games and a card table are something you simply can’t go wrong with. You can also add some extra storage where you’ll keep your comics and video games.

Tips for Adding a Game Room to Your Home

Do all of these things and transforming your basement into a family game room will be a real piece of cake. Get all the board and video games you and your kids like and the fun can start.

This would be a perfect project and a perfect room for a fun loving family like ours. We're gonna finally move to our own house in a few months and this is the type of room i'd want for us to have. Its gonna take a lot of time, effort, and money, but i'd put it out for my family's entertainment.

Yes, I would love to have a room like this! Sadly we have Michigan basement, so it's not a space that we could use for a game room. Wish we could though.
