I have no problem admitting that I’m a perfectionist. It shows in many areas of my life. One area where it really comes through is cleaning. For years the only way I would mop tile floors was on my hands and knees with a rag. Jason begged me to do it another way, but I have always hated traditional mopping (it’s such a pain to get ready and it takes the floors forever to dry), and I didn’t want a type of wet mop that I would need to constantly buy refills for. Then one day, while doing some reading on an online forum, I read about the Sh-Mop. I did a little research, and read some more reviews on it, and decided to order one. Cleaning floors hasn’t been the same for me since!
What is the Sh-Mop?
The Sh-Mop is a green way to get clean floors over and over again. I don’t want to give the ending away, but I love this mop! I always wonder where in my life I started getting so excited about cleaning tools. Oh how times change! The Sh-Mop gives your floors the cleaning of hand mopping without the pain to your knees and back. Plus your floors are dry within a few short minutes. No more yelling at the kids to stay off the floor you just moped! Personally I found the quick drying very helpful with cats. They really don’t listen if you tell them to stay off.
There are different Sh-Mop packages on Amazon to choose from. I decided to get the standard starter package that came with the mop and two mop covers. One of the covers was supposed to be better for dry mopping and one was supposed to be better for wet mopping. I honestly didn’t notice much of a difference, so I use both covers for both purposes. I dry mop every morning and just take the cover off and shake it out when I’m done. Then once a week I get it wet to mop the floors. When I’ve finished I toss that cover in the washer for cleaning and I put the other cover on. Each cover is supposed to be good for 250 washings. By rotating the two I’ve been able to go a long time without needing to buy new ones.
The Sh-Mop does a really good job cleaning the floors. To wet mop I run the mop cover under running water, wring it out, and put it back on the mop head. Then I spray it with floor cleaner and start mopping. I respray it before each new floor. The mop picks up all the dirt, and if there is a tough spot I tilt the mop head, hold the mop head with my hand, and scrub the spot with the side of the mop.
My Quick Cleaner for the Sh-Mop
I mentioned above that I spray cleaner onto my Sh-Mop when I do a wet mopping. I’ve heard of people that dip their Sh-Mop into a bucket with cleaner, but to me that’s too time consuming, and it always sounds like a wet mess. I instead made the task really easy by keeping floor cleaner in a spray bottle (I reused a Windex bottle). I just add a small amount of Spic and Span to the bottle and then I fill the rest of it with water. It makes cleaning the floors a breeze, and it lasts a long time.
