Fun In The Sun: Bubbles
Oh the simple joy of bubbles. You really can’t beat the simple activities that keep your little ones happy and occupied, and bubbles have been doing just that for generations. An added bonus is the fact that, while they’re not completely free, bubbles are a very inexpensive activity.
The age for when little ones start enjoying bubbles really depends on the child, but I’d say most start enjoying them by their first birthdays. I tried entertaining Nick last Summer with a bottle of bubbles, but he seemed to be unable to focus on them. I suppose that at only a few months old he was so busy trying to see everything that a little ball floating in the air didn’t compare to the rest. At some point during the Winter I had the idea to see if he would had changed his mind and would like the bubbles, so one night, when he was bored during his bath I pulled out the bottle of bubbles. Nick thought they were a lot of fun then, and he had the best time with them. That enjoyment grew over the Winter and by the time Summer came he loved playing with bubbles. He now starts bouncing up and down and squealing when he sees me pull out the bubble bottle. It’s even hard for him to even pick which kind of bubble he wants to play with more. He loves having lots of little bubbles blown his way, but he also loves when I blow a big bubble that he can grab and pop (or try not to pop, but that never lasts).
Bubbles themselves are really a simple activity, but there are lots of different bubble products on the market nowadays. Of course there’s the good old fashioned bottles, but there are also spill proof bottles (great for little ones), wands that make giant bubbles, and machines that put out continuous bubbles. Plus who could forget the Fisher-Price lawn mower that blows bubbles. That’s only a few of the products that are out there. There are so many bubble products to choose from, and there are products geared to many different ages.
