Letters to My Son – April 2013

Sharing is caring!

Nick 23 MonthsApril 5, 2013

Dear Nick,

Happy birthday month!  I cannot believe that April is here and that in a few short weeks you’ll be a big two year old.  I guess I shouldn’t be calling you a baby anymore.  Of course you’ll always be my baby, so hah!  March totally flew by.  Like most of the winter it was extra cold, and you were sick.  I’m beyond ready for spring to get here.  I know you’ll be happy when spring arrives as well because all you want to do is go outside to play.

For the most part it was a pretty low key month, with some big things thrown in.  I did get a new car at the start of the month, and you love it.  Whenever we leave the car you have to say bye to it.  You actually started by saying, “car bye,” but you quickly change it to, “bye car.”  Such a little thing is actually a big developmental step because it shows your understanding of the language.  I’m sure you don’t really care about that though.

Getting the car

Not only do you love the new car, but you loved getting it.  You thought sitting inside all of the floor models at the dealership was neat stuff.  Plus they gave you a balloon!  Oh how you loved that.  You had such a good experience that you keep making me take you out to the garage so you can get in and out of our car and sit in different seats like you did with the floor models!

Climbing

You keep changing like crazy!  You seem to be right on track developmentally.  You’re putting two words together, and I honestly have lost count of all the words that you know now.  The things you say and do just crack me up.  You can also now climb onto the furniture, so there really isn’t anywhere you can’t go.  Every day you become a little more of your own person.

Easter Eggs

The middle of the month had ups and downs.  We celebrated my birthday.  I got the day off of work, which was nice because that meant we got to spend the whole day together.  It wasn’t that exciting of a day though.  The middle of the month brought sadness too.  One of the little boys from my moms group passed away.  We still don’t know what happened.  One day he was a happy and healthy little boy, and the next morning he just didn’t wake up.  He passed away a little over two weeks before his second birthday.  On his birthday all of our friends from the group released balloons for him.  I knew you’d have a breakdown over letting a balloon go, so we lit a candle to honor Levi.  His Mommy and Daddy had asked for the balloons to be blue, so we bought a blue candle.  We lit the candle first thing in the morning, and it burned all day.  I showed you the candle and told you what it was for, but you obviously didn’t understand.

Levi's Candle

The end of the month should have been a high because it was Easter, and Mommy loves Easter, but it was not a good day for you.  You were a teething, sick, mess.  You had a rough morning, and didn’t really care about any of the things the Easter Bunny had brought you.  Luckily a lot of medicine helped you feel better.  You took a good nap, and then had a lot of fun playing with Nana at Aunt Chris’ house.

Bubbles

This month is going to be so exciting with lots of fun things including your birthday and our trip to see Thomas the Train! Hopefully the weather will be nicer as well.  I fear for cold days because you don’t do the inside thing very well right now!  I can’t wait to see all the fun we’re going to have!

Love,

Mommy

  1. I love the balloon picture. My kids are obsessed with balloons and any loss of a balloon results in a complete meltdown (super fun when you lose a balloon in the grocery store, yay!).

This is so sweet…and don’t you love seeing their language develop? Happy Birthday month, Nick!

    1. I do! He’s such a little chatter box. Jason and I will crack up because Nick will play and he’ll be babbling away, and then a word he knows will pop up, “babble, babble, babble, thank-you, babble, babble…” It’s so stinkin’ cute!

  2. First big ((hugs)) to your friend! How heart breaking! Also I adore the photos! That bubble shot is easily my favorite!
