Letters to my Son - August 2014
August 1, 2014

Dear Nick,

Well, like I had thought it would July flew by.  It seemed that there was always stuff we needed to do.  Of course you’re so go, go, go that there is always stuff that we’re doing!  You my wonderful child are exhausting!  Luckily Uncle David went back to Colorado or a few weeks, so we’re able to spend more time with Nana, which means Mommy can work a little more.  Although truthfully I feel bad about it because I know you exhaust her too!

Playing at the Park
While we were kept busy this month we didn’t have any real big things that happened.  Mostly just little things here and there.   At the beginning of the month you had a really fun field trip to the lake.  It was too cold for you (and way to cold for Mommy) to want to swim in the lake, but by the afternoon it warmed up which was nice because then we transferred from the lake to a fun splash zone type park.  You called it the sprinkle park (you’ve really gotten into sprinkling this month).  You really had the best time there.

Egg Allergy Update
Of course you also went to the allergist’s this month.  We don’t know any more about that yet though because we still need to get your blood work done.  Actually I’m taking you to get it drawn this afternoon.  I am so not looking forward to that! As always you’re learning and changing all the time.  Just the other day I saw that you had been working on a letter “A” project at school, so on the way home I asked you if you knew a word that started with the letter “A.”  Without even needing time to think you told me, “apple.”  I must say I was pretty impressed with that.

Movie Watching
You are also very deep into the threeanger mode (as my mommy friends and I call it).  Oh man, the attitude you can give!  The other day you actually said to us, “I don’t care.”  It was all Nana and I could do not to burst out laughing.  You had sounded just like a teenager.  I must say you’re giving me a good view of what the future holds!  I can’t say I’m excited about it.

Coffee Time
We’ve been trying to spend as much time outside as we can, but it hasn’t really been much.  The weather just isn’t cooperating with us this year.  This has been the coldest summer that I remember (this morning the news said it was the 10th coldest July on record), and I remember some chilly ones.  Yesterday when we woke up there were cities in our area reading temps in the 40’s!  This may be Michigan, but that’s still way low for this time of year.  Plus it’s been raining, so we keep getting trapped inside.  During that time you’ve started watching a lot of my Disney Afternoon DVDs (Rescue Rangers, Duck Tales, and Darkwing Duck).  That has been fun for both of us!

Chickens
Well, here’s to August!  Hopefully the weather improves and we’ll actually get to enjoy summer.  At least what little is left of it.  I can’t believe it’s almost over.  I realized the other day that you actually start preschool next month.  Since it’s at your daycare it hadn’t really penetrated yet.  I can’t believe how fast time is going.  I’m really not ready for school!  There’s not much I can do about it though.

Love,

Mommy

P.S. Memo to myself…take more pictures!  I seemed to have slacked on that last month!

  1. I always look forward to these letters I so love the idea of doing them. But I also find it funny because I get to see how much our boys seem to have in common based on age – threeanger has been a real problem around here this month too!
