One Of A Special Few
The first year of a baby’s life is full of so many wonderful and exciting firsts. The first time they smile, the first time they move (crawl or walk depending on the baby), and of course all of the first holidays. With Nick’s birthday being almost a full three weeks away you’d think we would be getting very excited to celebrate Nick’s first Easter, but that just isn’t the case. In fact Nick already completed his list of first holidays. Confused yet? Well, think back to last year. Easter in 2011 was on April 24, and Nick was born on April 21, so he was three days old for his first Easter, so we’re actually gearing up for his second one.
Yes, Nick will get to celebrate his second Easter before he even has his first birthday, and he’s not the only one. Since Easter was so late last year every baby born between April 9 and April 24 will get to celebrate it twice during their first year. Easter and Thanksgiving are the only two holidays that could create such a situation. A few years ago we had a really early Easter, so I’m sure there were some babies that year that had a birthday before they ever had their first Easter!
It’s kind of neat that he gets to be part of such a small group (I mean not many people get to celebrate two holidays before they turn one), but it’s really messing with my head. I feel like Nick’s birthday should be this week since Easter is. We even came home from the hospital on Good Friday. I really don’t want to rush his birthday though. I plan to enjoy the last few weeks I have with my baby before he’s officially a toddler, but the whole timing is just messing with my head.
I am looking forward to this Easter though since Nick didn’t have a clue what was going on last year. Having a baby days before Easter made for really cute announcements (I took a picture of Nick in a basket with plastic eggs and wrote “Our Easter egg has hatched!”), but it also meant that we were all exhausted. This Easter should be more fun and enjoyable.

Very neat Elizabeth. I know that last Easter was his first, but Grandma and Grandpa had to send a card this Easter that said Happy First Easter. Enjoy your day with your family.
