Letters To My Son – March 2014

Dear Nick,

Well, February was quite a month.  It is a month we won’t soon forget.  It was full of highs, and the lowest of lows.

The month started off great.  At the beginning we headed down to Florida to escape the cold and visit Grandma and Grandpa at their little house.  We had to dub their place in Florida that because you got very upset when we got to their place because we had told you that we were going to see them and you knew that wasn’t “their” house.  It was cold and rainy for the first two days, but then it warmed up and we all had a great time.  We bought you a beach ball to play with and you had fun throwing it through Grandma’s “Toodles” and we called it Toodles Ball.  You are a big fan of Toodles and anything that is the basic Mickey silloute of a face and two years you think is Toodles.

While we were in Florida we did go to Walt Disney World.  We visited many of the resorts, Downtown Disney, and the Magic Kingdom.  It was going to end there, but a bad snow/ice storm in Georgia caused us to stay an extra day, so we ended up going to Epcot too.  You had a good time although you got very scared while riding Peter Pan.  We thought you had been scared by Captain Hook, he certainly isn’t the same one you’re used to from Jake, but after watching Peter Pan with you last week we’re starting to think you were very scared for Captain Hook because it looked like Tic Toc Crock was going to eat him at the end.  That part of the movie scared you too and we kept having to tell you that Captain Hook was alright.  It scared you enough though that going into rides really scared you.  You were always fine once you were on the ride though.

When we got home from Florida is when the lows came.  Mommy and Daddy are having problems with their relationship, and for the time being Daddy has moved out.  I’ve felt awful fearing that you’ll have to grow up the way Mommy did with divorced parents, but sometimes these things just happen.  Mommy and Daddy are trying to work things out, but at this point none of us know what’s going to happen.  What you need to know is that we both still love you and agree that making sure things are OK for you is very important.  For the most part you’ve handled things well.  You were upset and clingy the first week because seeing Mommy upset really upset you.  We’re settling into our new groove now though and you’re doing great.

You changed so much last month.  You are learning so much all the time.  You constantly blew us away all month with the things you knew.  You can pretty much recognize every number from 0 – 10, although you sometimes confuse 6 and 9.  You also know a lot of letters.  It started with only x, o, and d, but you know so many now.  Just the other day you picked up a block and said that it had a green m on it (which was right).  You’re studying the alphabet in school this month, so I’m sure you’ll have all of your letters down by the time April gets here.

Hopefully March won’t be nearly as sad as February was.  The weather is, very slowly, starting to warm up.  I think it’s going to be far colder than normal, but at least it’s a start.  This has been the longest, coldest, and worst winter ever and it needs to end!
