Last week I was very excited when I was asked to review Cupcake Digital’s newest app.  This one is all about Veggie Tales and Christmas and is called It’s a Very Merry Larry Christmas.  Nick has been bursting with an abundance of Christmas spirit, so I knew he’d enjoy this app.

A Look at the App

This app is a bit different than other Cupcake Digital apps because the main focus is not an interactive story.  Instead there are a lot of different games.  When you open up one of the games the first page you see is a story page that sets up the reason for the game.  The games are quite cute and all fit the Christmas theme well.  The main page of the app is set-up to look like a mall and children pick which “store” they want to go to.  Each store is a different activity/game.  The ones that you’ll find are:

  • Build your own train track at Larry’s Locomotive
  • Decorate your Christmas tree with shiny ornaments in the All Spruced Up puzzle game
  • Find & match colorful gifts in That’s a Wrap
  • Create & send your own VeggieTales holiday greeting cards in the Season’s Greetings store
  • Smash yummy candies in the Sweet Tooth game
  • Choose the correct holiday bag for a special treat in Elf Village
  • Visit the VeggieTales Holiday Silly Songs store to see Merry Larry in a hilarious music video
  • Color your Veggie friends with buckets of paint, brushes, stickers, and more with the Food Coloring activity

The app is available for both Android and Apple devices.

My Thoughts on It’s A Very Merry Larry Christmas App

I personally thought that the app was quite cute.  Nick was very excited, and still is, to play his Christmas game.  The games that are included are great for learning because they really require young kids to think. Some of the skills they require are quite high though making it, in my opinion, not the best app for toddlers.  Nick isn’t easily frustrated by tablet games, so he doesn’t have a problem with the higher skills.  He either makes the game work for him, or he has us do it for him.  He’s a smart little manipulator.  I personally feel that the game is better suited for preschool age kids, but if you’re toddler is like Nick than it should be fine.  I do like how much it’s requiring him to think and problem solve.  I’m always amazed by how well he does with the tablet and all that the games require of him.

DVD Giveaway

In honor of the debut of this great app Cupcake Digital is allowing me to hold a giveaway for a DVD copy of Merry Larry and The True Light of Christmas.  Best of all they’re letting me give 5 copies of it away, so 5 lucky people are going to get an extra Christmas present this year!  Good luck!

I received a coupon code to get the app for free in order to facilitate my review.  I was not compensated in any other way.  All opinions are my own.

  1. I want a laptop. Mine died in April but now that its so close to Christmas I can’t seem to find a good deal. I am waiting till January to see what happens.

  2. My kids haven’t really went too overboard this year so I am very thankful. They have mostly asked for legos and a video game.
