Letters to m Son - May 2014

May 2, 2014

Dear Nick,

Well, April turned out to be just as busy and crazy as I had thought it would be.  We had stuff planned every weekend, so we had very little downtime.  The first weekend we went to a birthday party at the historical museum.  We weren’t sure if you’d like it or not.  We were afraid the big dinosaur bones might scare you, but you had a good time.

The next weekend you participated in the Easter Egg hunt that our town puts on every year.  You had the best time!  The weather turned out to be really nice for it too.  After the egg hunt the Easter Bunny stopped by.  You really wanted to see him, which surprised me some.  You were pretty shy when it was your turn to go up to him, but you were still glad that you had seen him.

The following weekend was very busy because it was your birthday weekend.  On Saturday we got your 3 year portraits taken.  You were very excited to get them taken, although you were a bit confused about what to do.  They didn’t give you a lot of guidance at first.  The studio where we used to get your portraits taken had closed, so this studio and how they did things was new for us.  At one point they gave you a number three to hold.  You thought it was really cool, but every time they went to take your picture you’d cover your face with it!  It was kind of funny actually.  After your portraits were done you went to spend the rest of the day with Daddy and his family to celebrate your birthday.  Of course Sunday was Easter.  You enjoyed finding the eggs and your baskets, but at first you tried to make Mommy do it.  You’re in the “I need someone to get everything for me” stage.  I was not about to find them for you though, so you did eventually do it.  You really liked your gifts, but I’d say your favorite was the light up bubble gun.  You quickly figured out how to use it yourself, so you used it a ton.  By the time Easter was over I had used just about all of the bubbles that were in the house to refill it!

Planes Basket

Monday was your birthday.  We took Happy Birthday Oreos for you to share with your friends at school.  This was the first year that your birthday fell on a school day, so it was the first time you’ve taken a treat in.  After school we went to McDonald’s with Nana, Grandma, and Grandpa.

Blowing out Candle

This past weekend was another busy one.  On Saturday we had your birthday party for the family and a few of your friends.  This year we went with a Planes theme.  It turned out quite well and you got a lot of great gifts.  Of course you ended up having a cold for it, but what else is new?  The next day we went to see Thomas the Train.  You were so excited, and we all had a great time.

Opening Presents

A few days ago we went to the doctor for your three year well visit.  I told you that you could bring some of your Doc McStuffin toys with you, and that made you as excited to go as you had been to see Thomas!  You were a very good boy at the appointment, and I was so proud.  The doctor was very happy with everything.  You are still small at only 37 inches (37%) and 27.6 lbs (9%), but you’re still following your growth curve so no problems there.  We certainly won’t be looking to get you a booster seat for a long time though!

Making Pie Crust

Things were exciting all around this month.  I signed up to start selling Origami Owl which I’m really enjoying.  Also Uncle David is doing a lot better.  We had some more scares with him this month, especially when they found a blood clot, but now things are looking up.  After lots of tests they’ve come to see that besides the C-Diff he had an appendicitis, but his appendix leaked out instead of blowing up, and that’s what caused the puss pocket.  So crazy!  There’s a small chance that he’ll need some surgery to remove the left over cyst and/or appendix, but at this point it looks like everything can be taken care of with medication and time.  We are all very happy about that!

New Bike

May is already looking to be a busy month too, but hopefully it won’t be as crazy as April.  I must say that the past month wore me out!

Love,

Mommy
