Letters to my Son - October 2014
October 3, 2014

Dear Nick,

Wow, can you believe it’s October already!  We’re starting to get the house all decorated and you are so excited about it. You especially love playing with my Great Pumpkin toys.  You are such a big Peanuts fan.  Of course when you play with the toys you have to watch The Great Pumpkin at the same time.  It’s so cute watching you act out the story with the toys.

Of course during September you started preschool.  That was a bittersweet day.  Your preschool is through the daycare though, so it wasn’t a real big change for you.  For the most part you do like school.  It can be a battle getting you out the door to go in the mornings, but you’re always happy when you get there.  You learn a lot too and you are starting to enjoy talking about what you did at school although it takes prompting to get information out of you.  This year the staff seems to be focusing their lessons around a new book each week and you really like that.  You also had your fourth school picture taken.  You were so excited about picture day this year.  Somehow I’m guessing that excitement won’t last many more years, but it’s nice that you’re not camera shy.

Of course what’s back to school time without a cold?  Yep, you got sick the second week of school (luckily after picture day), and you were nice enough to share it with me.  I have to admit that being a single mom can be really tough when you’re sick.  Luckily for me I only have you to take care of, and you were more than happy to snuggle up in bed with me while we both got over the cold.  I laid in bed and worked while you laid next to me and played games on the tablet.  We actually both managed to get over the cold in a week, but it left both of us exhausted.  You’re exhaustion still hasn’t ended, but since you’re eating me out of house and home too I have a feeling that you’re finally getting a huge growth spurt that you’re beyond due for.

Stop
Every month you seem to change so much.  You have developed quite a personality.  You’ve also started to develop an attitude, but we’re working on that.  You are also developing your own opinions and while you’re shy around strangers you have no problem telling us what you think and what you want to do.  Uncle David came home from Colorado this month for a little bit and before he left to come home he asked me if you were talking more.  I just wanted to laugh because you talk all the time.  You tell everyone everything.  The night Uncle David came home I had accidentally put your shorts on backwards after you had gone potty.  We realized the mistake, but since your shorts are pretty much the same either way we just left it.  You went out for a walk with Nana and Grandma and Uncle David drove by.  He stopped and rolled down his window and the first thing you told him was that your shorts were on backwards!  No telling you any secrets!

I’m excited to see what this month brings.  You’re already having so much fun with the whole Halloween thing.  I can’t wait to take you Trick-or-Treating this year!

Love,

Mommy

P.S. You can certainly tell we were sick much of the month because I took almost no pictures!  Bad mommy.  Hopefully I do better with that this month!
