Letters To My Son – September 2013
Dear Nick,
Well summer is over. I can’t believe how fast it went, or how much you changed over it. You continue to amaze us. You love to count and do it all the time. We’ve heard you count as high as 13, and you’re starting to count by 10s. Those are a bit hard, but you keep trying. You also talk like crazy. You still babble a lot when you get excited about something or when you’re talking to yourself (I call it Toddlerish), but you’re starting to speak in clear sentences too. You can’t tell us why your upset about something, or what doesn’t feel good, but other than that you can communicate everything else.
Speaking of not feeling good and pain you started teething again! A few weeks ago I was sure you were done with teething, but man was I wrong! This has probably been the worst round yet too. You don’t want to eat or nap most of the time, and you’ve been getting upset and throwing fits over everything! It’s been exhausting (for both of us).
Your favorite thing to do right now is to go outside and play. You now want your shoes on all day long. That way you’re always ready to go out. You often let me know you’re ready to go by bringing me my shoes and saying, “Mommy shoes.” You like to play in our yard. Your favorite game is to have a really (for lack of a better word) race. You run a ways up the sidewalk. Then you turn back towards me, squat down, and motion with your arm while saying, “Go Mommy!” That’s my cue to run towards you, and when I’m about half way there you start running towards me. You’ll go a bit farther and we’ll start it all over again. We do it a lot!
Your very favorite thing to do though is go to the park. Oh boy do you love that. You’ll cheer, “The park! Yeah the park!” all the way there! You would play for hours there if we let you. You love to slide and swing. You can even sit and swing in the big kid swings. You still like the baby swings though because you can go high, “up to the sky!” in them. Your new passion though is for climbing. You can climb from rung to rung so well. Neither one of us even knew you could do it until I told you one day that you had to wait for the other kids to finish and I’d help you (read I do most of the work) climb. You didn’t want to wait, so you just started climbing and up you went. You truly are my little monkey now!
You’ve really started to enter the “I can do it myself” phase this month, which I can’t say I’m a huge fan of. It has caused many a temper tantrum. You just want to be a big boy. You love helping me push the cart out of the grocery store, and you do a good job too. You’re small hand coordination is really good and you can already use an adult fork and spoon quite well. Now the fully feeding yourself part of the “I can do it myself” phase I really don’t mind. It’s very nice to be able to enjoy my own dinner for a change.
The best part of the month though was the realization that your egg allergy will no longer be a major factor in your life. Now I don’t know if you’ll ever get to the point where you can eat an actual egg (although you really want to), but we have now tried feeding you all types of baked goods (bread, cake, and cookies) and not one thing caused even the slightest reaction. Just yesterday I told the daycare that you can now share in birthday treats that come in. It is such a relief to all of us to see you well outgrowing your allergy. I prayed we’d see it happen, but I had tried to not get my hopes up. I must say you’ve loved all of your new treats. Especially the chocolate chip cookies Grandma made you. Oh, and to make it even better we gave you waffles for the first time the other night, and they were a success too! I see Mickey Mouse waffles in your future kid. You’ll now be able to fully enjoy breakfast at Chef Mickey’s in a couple weeks.
It was a wonderful summer although it went by way too fast. I’ve been looking at all the pictures of the kids going back to school and I know that will be you far too soon. For now though I’m just going to think about our Disney trip. Oh the stories I’ll write in your letter next month!
Love,
Mommy
“Letters To My Son” is a post that I feature the first Friday of every month. It is part of a circle of posts written by other wonderful mommy bloggers. Each of our letters links to a letter on another blog. If you keep linking from one to the other you will end up back here at Rock-A-Bye Parents. The next letter in the circle is written by Alison at Being Alison. Go check it out!

This is such a great letter to your son. I’m sure one day he will appreciate all of the letters you write each week. They are great reminders of all the milestones he achieves in life.
Thank you for linking up.
They grow up so fast! Your son is super cute 🙂
He has gotten so big this summer!
Do you think so? It feels like he hasn’t grown at all! LOL It’s always easier for someone that’s not around all the time to notice those things.
I’m glad he is still doing well with eating egg. But sorry for the teething. It is always so rough on them.
Is it ever! It’s so hard to see them in so much pain and only be able to do a little to help them.
That’s great that he has outgrown his egg allergy. He is just too cute and looks like such a good helper.
Very sweet letter – and your son is a doll! What adorable pictures.
Thank you Dianna. He loves getting his picture taken. As soon as he sees a camera, or a phone, he smiles and says,”cheese.”
ohhhh I’ve to say this. He is so so so cute!!!
I’m so glad he can eat foods with eggs in them, and hopefully one day he can eat just eggs! He is so precious, Elizabeth! I’m in love with his hair! 🙂 As for shoes, my son was the opposite, he never wanted to wear shoes (he still would rather be barefoot). 🙂
I hope so! Not having to worry so much is still great though. It’s so much easier to avoid now although I still worry about Mayo. It’s one of the things people forget about.
I’m a bare foot person too. Maybe it’s from growing up in the country. Drives my husband nuts.
That’s wonderful that he has outgrown his egg allergy!
Nick is so sweet. He looks like such the big helper! 🙂
He is one of those little kids that lives to help, and then he thanks me for letting him! LOL
so sweet. my boys love the park too and they are 10, 9 and 5
Yeah I don’t see him outgrowing his love for the park any time soon.
I love reading the letters you write for Nick. Maybe I need to make some more cookies.
Thats great that he is outgrowing his egg allergy, Im sure life life just got a hole lot easier!
Oh it really has! Food allergies are so scary, and we just cut over half of the food that we used to worry about out!
Our kidlets are doing a lot of the same things! Isn’t is wonderful to see it all??
