Newborn Diapers Comparison
I’m a planner. When something big is about to happen I want to be planning or doing something. Early on when we were expecting Nick I wanted to be able to do something to get ready for him. At the beginning of a pregnancy there’s not a lot you can do. You don’t want to buy much because you don’t want to jinx the pregnancy. Plus if you’re going to find out the gender then you really don’t want to buy anything until you know what it is. Not to mention it’s a little silly to go out and buy a lot if you know you’re going to be having a baby shower. This left me twiddling my thumbs and going nuts.
I felt I had to do something, so I decided I would slowly start stocking up on disposable baby diapers. I figured it would save me time and money later on. Not having had a baby before I had no idea which brand was the best one to buy. I got a lot of Huggies coupons in the paper, so I decided to stock up on them. Being the Disney fan that I am I loved that they had Winnie the Pooh on them. The box boosted the fact that the diapers had an umbilical cord cut out. Being a first time mom I thought that sounded great. I wouldn’t have to worry about the diaper bothering the baby’s umbilical cord stub. Little did I know that little half circle cut out at the top of the diaper would be my downfall.
For the first few days of Nick’s life we used Pampers diapers because that was what they gave us at the hospital. They worked very well, but it seemed annoying to have to always fold the diaper down so it wouldn’t bother the umbilical cord stump. I couldn’t wait to open the Huggies diapers so we wouldn’t have to bother with folding the diaper any more.
Finally the time came to open the Huggies and we hated them. We lost count of the number of times we got peed on because of the umbilical cord cut out. The pee came up and out and we were constantly changing all of our clothes because were all getting pee on them. It was awful! It was so bad that I went out and bought Pampers diapers because we couldn’t take it anymore.
Now I’m not sure this would be a problem for little girls, but for little boys I highly advise you not to buy any newborn diapers made by Huggies. I honestly was scared to try the bigger Huggies diaper sizes, but luckily we didn’t have any trouble with them since we had received larger Huggies diapers as shower gifts. Right now we use Huggies all the time, but there is no way I would ever use their newborn diapers again.
As a Grandma and not dealing with Nick the very first few weeks. I find this to be a funny story, because I was not the one changing the his diaper. To the new Mothers who have baby boys. I can see that Huggies could be a big problem. This would proably work find for little girls. When I was a new Mother we use to use baby bands, which went around the stomach and we had to change them every time you change the diaper. Than we had a lot of laundry to do. Happy to say that the new diapers are the best. Love you.
If you had been with me on the day that I started crying that I had no more clothes because I had already changed my outfit 3 times (and I still didn’t fit in everything yet) then you wouldn’t have found it so funny ;-).
