Nick’s First Vacation: Boarding The Fantasy (Part 3)

Sharing is caring!

As we crossed the gangplank we started to get a view of the Fantasy’s stunning lobby.  Personally I like the lobby on the new ships better than the lobby on the older ships.  I think the beautiful crystal chandelier has something to do with it.

As we stepped onto the ship a cast member asked for our family name and then made an announcement with a microphone welcoming us to the Disney Fantasy.  Walking into the lobby, and hearing them welcome us, was so existing that I actually got a bit emotional and I had to fight back tears for a second.

Our first order of business was to have some lunch, so we immediately headed to the elevators to go down a floor and to go to The Enchanted Garden.  The restaurant wasn’t very busy, so we didn’t have any wait to get a table.  Once we were seated we ordered our drinks and then took turns going up to the buffet.  When I went up I was going to get Nick food too, but I couldn’t find any kid food anywhere.  I asked a cast member where it was and she told me that chicken tenders and mac and cheese were available, but you had to order it from the server.  I quickly got me some food and booked it back to the table to wait for our server to return with our drinks so I could order food for Nick.  I’m not sure whose idea this was, but making the kids wait for their food is not the way to go.  Luckily Nick was enjoying the sites and sounds of the cruise, and apparently wasn’t very hungry, so he didn’t mind waiting.

I went up for my dessert before Nick’s meal had even arrived.  One of the dessert options was a fruit bowl, so I got one for Nick.  He enjoyed the fruit while waiting for his food.  By the time it finally arrived he had mostly filled up on fruit, so he didn’t eat a lot of it.  You could tell he wasn’t still hungry though, so we didn’t mind that he didn’t want to eat.

Once we were done with lunch we once again grabbed all of our backpacks and went back to the elevators to head up to the eight floor to find our stateroom.  As we were walking down our hallway (which was a long walk since the restaurant was at the front of the ship and our room was all the way at the back) mom called us.  It turns out that they were standing outside our group of rooms.  We came up to everyone just as they were leaving to go to lunch.  Nick was very excited to see his Nana and he couldn’t get into her arms fast enough.

Since we still had all of our stuff we went into the room to put it down.  We had gotten a Deluxe Family Stateroom and we loved it right from the start.  Our room was extra long (about the size of one of the regular staterooms plus the space of an attached verandah).  The extra space was so wonderful because it gave us the necessary room for the Pack and Play.  When we walked in I saw that our stewardess had been thoughtful enough to give us a Diaper Gene which we very much appreciated (every ship has some, but you often have to ask for one).  On our bed was a big shipping box of diapers (we had per-ordered diapers from Babies Travel Lite which I highly recommend) plus our Castaway Club gift which was a really nice backpack with snacks inside.

Once we had set our stuff down Mom went to have lunch.  Nick was not happy that Nana was leaving, but we managed to get him distracted.  Mom said she would come back as soon as she was done eating so we could all go look around the ship.

  1. What fun! My daughter’s first vacation was on a cruise, too (Carnival). Actually, her second vacation was also on a cruise (Disney, the second time around). Disney sure does things right!
