Nick’s First Vacation: Grand Cayman (Part 1)

I woke up on Monday morning at the same time as I had on Sunday.  I felt even more rested though because I had gotten an extra hour of sleep because we had changed time zones during the night.  There is nothing like waking up on your own feeling well rested.  I think the only time that truly happens for me is when we take a cruise.  Mental note to myself…take more cruises!

I got up, got around, and headed out to get my daily hot chocolate.  When I came back to the room I saw that the door to mom’s room was cracked, so I knocked on the door and went in to sit with her and wait until Nick woke up.  Our bodies weren’t used to the time change though, so we were hungry.  In the end we gave up on Nick and went up to Cabanas breakfast without him.

We were just finishing our food when Jason called to say that Nick was up.  Mom said she’d be happy to have another cup of coffee, so she waited at the table while I went to get Nick.  I was glad Nick hadn’t slept any later than he had because Jake, of Jake and the Never Land Pirates, was going to be out for pictures and I was sure Nick would want to see him.

Jake was scheduled to be out at 9:30 and 10:30.  By the time I had gotten Nick dressed, taken him up to the buffet and fed him, and taken breakfast back to Jason it was too late to see Jake at the 9:30 time.  There wasn’t enough time to make it to see Jake at the first time, but there was still too much time to just hang out before Jake made his next appearance.  We decided to start on our morning walk and we’d stop in time to see Jake.

We had gotten through two miles of our walk when we decided we needed to head inside and get in line.  There was a long line since some people were waiting to see Captain Hook and Mr. Smee, but there were a lot of people ahead of us waiting for Jake too.  Jake turned out to be late though.  We kept getting closer and closer to Captain Hook, and while Nick thinks he’s very funny on the show, we weren’t sure how well he’d handle seeing him as a real life character.  We kept looking for Jake to appear, but he wasn’t coming.  Finally someone was sent to find him.

Finally Jake came down the hall.  He walked right next to the line and Nick got crazy excited when he saw him!  Nick watched him as he walked away and it wasn’t easy keeping Nick calm as we waited for our turn.  Nick has been a Jake fan almost as long as he’s been a Mickey fan.  He loves Jake and the Never Land Pirates, and boy was he excited when it was our turn for Jake.  Jake played around with Nick for a minute or two, but the line was quite long, so we posed for our picture and then said goodbye.

When we were done seeing Jake we went back outside to finish the last mile of our walk.  By that point Nick wasn’t really into it though, so we only got about another lap around the deck.  It was getting close to lunch time since we had planned on eating early so we could go look around Grand Cayman.  We didn’t think Nick would really care for hanging out in the room, so we decided to go look in the stores again.  We were able to entertain Nick some, but it wasn’t really pretty.  Finally we went upstairs to our rooms, but Nick still wasn’t happy.  We realized that due to the time change he probably was really hungry since to him it was lunch time.  Even though we had already planned on eating early we decided to make it even earlier than that, so we gathered up our whole group and we all went up to the pool deck for some lunch.

  1. That looks like a great start to your trip! My daughter is a huge fan of pirates and I’m a huge fan of the beach. Grand Cayman has been on our list for years but I didn’t realize all of the kid friendly amenities available!

  2. I love reading about our vacation all over again. Let’s go back. I’m ready but don’t have and jingles.
