A Growing Monkey 10 – 12 Months

Sharing is caring!

10th Month

This was a big month for Nick.  He started it sick because his sinus infection had returned.  Almost as soon as Nick got over the sinus infection he had a major growth spurt.  Literally he woke up one morning fitting into his jammies and that night he was too big for them.  He is now wearing 6 – 9 month and 9 month clothes.  The end of the month was crazy for Nick too because he got four new teeth (all on top) at one time!  Nick loves to stand now and will sometimes cry if you make him sit or lie down instead.  He needs a lot of spotting, but he can sometimes hod onto things and stand by himself.  He also really likes to walk around (someone has to help hold him up).  Nick likes all of the same toys and shows.  He has also gone back to two naps and we’re starting to use the 2-3-4 routine.  It’s working really well.  Nick naps about 3 hours during the day and sleeps around 11 hours at night.  He has also started new foods.  He can eat Mum-Mums by himself and he also eats CoCoa Wheats and carrot bites.  His only new word this month was night-night.

11th Month

This was yet another sick month for Nick.  He caught a cold at the beginning and it turned int bronchitis (with it he had conjunctivitis and a touch of pneumonia).  Nick is still wearing the same size clothes, but he also started wearing 12 month t-shirts because it has been so hot and he didn’t have many 9 month clothes suitable for hot weather.  He still likes the same toys and shows.  Nick stands really well now.  He can easily stand holding onto nothing.  He’s really walking well now (with help) and has even taken two steps on his own.  He now eats more big boy food.  He eats canned fruits and veggies.  He also eats cottage cheese and has had tomato soup.  I tried giving him an egg one day, but he had a terrible reaction.

12th Month

The last month of Nick’s first year has been full of developmental milestones.  He can now pick up and eat small pieces of food by himself, he can drink from his sippy cup by himself, he can kick a ball, and if you give him your hands he can almost pull himself up from a sitting position.  He also now gestures a lot.  He waves (at himself) and he’s very good at shaking his head no.  His favorite thing to do is walk (or practically run).  We do it all day long!  He still needs to hold onto our hands, but he’s starting to let go and walk holding onto only one hand.  Nick now eats stage 3 meat baby food.  He also now loves baby cereal fruit bars and muffins (I make special ones without egg).  He’s starting to outgrow a lot of his toys, but he does love the ball and dalmatian figurines that he got for Easter and he loves to stand in his crib and bat at his mobile.  He wears the same size clothes, but he’s starting to outgrow them and should be wearing 12 months soon.  Separation anxiety has hit though and he now cries when we leave him at day care.
