Alright, I have a confession to make…I didn’t do so well with boot camp during the second week. It has nothing to do with the boot camp. It’s was me and life. For one thing I caught a cold from Nick this week. Nothing terrible, but I was run down and not up for doing a whole lot. For the second thing I didn’t need to do a lot of the tasks this week because they’re not a problem in my home, so it made me a tiny bit lazy.
Week 2 of Staying Organized
This week really focused on the bedroom. The first day was about decluttering it and cleaning it up. Our bedroom is usually pretty clean. There aren’t clothes lying around (I cannot handle that), and there isn’t a bunch of junk sitting on our dressers or night stands. A messy bedroom is just not a problem we have.
Then there were two days to focus on our closet. This is something that I have needed to do. We moved into our home two and a half years ago when I was pregnant. There are clothes in my closet that I haven’t touched since they were first hung up here. I know this because the hangers aren’t facing a different way than how we hang our clothes up now! How sad is that? One of my biggest problems is that we live in an old house (built 1876), so we don’t have any good closet space. The size of our closet for the age of the house isn’t bad, but there isn’t a lot of room for two people to share. This means I can’t hardly even find the clothes that have been pushed into the sides. Does that mean I have too many clothes? Now I have made a dent on my closet, but it’s no where near done. I still have clothes I wore in middle school people! They mostly still fit (hence why I still have them), but many of them don’t look like someone who is nearing 30 (ugh!), with a two year old, would wear. I already have a large garbage bag full of clothes to donate (bottom right in the picture above), and I bet I’ll easily fill another one. I forgot to take a before picture, so the picture above is what I have gotten done as of Saturday night. Do you see the collection of hangers on the left? Those are either from the donated clothes or I found them going through everything. Yes, our clothes are so stuffed that hangers got lost in there! Right now I’m scouring Pinterest to find some great tips on how to organize a really small closet because things just aren’t working for us.
Once finished with the bedroom we had an organize whatever you want day, and a donate stuff day. This is where I kind of fell off the wagon. I didn’t really get a chance to do some extra organizing because I was busy catching up with blog work due to being sick. I suppose that was a form of organizing though. I also didn’t get a chance to donate my bag of stuff yet. The only place we have to donate around here are those big donation bins. We took a bag a few months back it was hard for Jason to even get it open, so he’s got to take the bag in. There’s no way I could do it.
We also had another day of organizing our schedule. I’ve actually spent a lot of time throughout the week finding a way to make it work for me. I was worried I was doing it wrong, but I got some great advice from the Facebook group and found out that I was actually on the right track. We finished the week up by cleaning our desks. The focus was mostly on the surface desk area which I had actually gotten control of recently. I didn’t take that as a free ride though. While the top of my desk is in good shape the inside of my desk isn’t, so I spent 20 minutes cleaning out one of the many drawers.
Overall I wasn’t as focused during week 2 as I was during week 1, but looking at what I did do makes me feel that I still made some really good progress. Making room in my closet is a huge step and I can’t wait to spend some more time tackling it. I’m looking forward to week three because we’re looking at paper clutter and getting our calendars under control. I really need this because I’m not very good at using calendars even though I keep trying.
Remember you can still use my code RAP15 to get 15% off of any of the Buttoned Up Boot Camp programs. I truly feel it’s worth every penny. I have learned a lot from this program, and I feel that my life is feeling less crazy already. I didn’t even think that was possible! I’m thinking I may need to look into some of their other programs for getting my life in order. Plus don’t forget about the giveaway that will start when I finish boot camp in two weeks!
