Nick’s First Vacation: Cozumel (Part 4)

I know it has been some time since I last posted a recap from our cruise last fall, but with our next vacation getting closer and closer I figured I needed to finish these up.   When we left off Nick had just fallen asleep after getting worn out at his character dance party.

With Nick asleep it was time for coffee!  The guys both decided to stay back, so it was just us girls.  We plopped down in the comfy seats in the Cove Cafe and just relaxed.  After we had been there for about twenty minutes a group of girls around my age arrived to get drinks.  One of them looked like a girl that I had graduated with.  Since high school she had been working on the cruise ships and we had bumped into her a lot, so I kind of had been looking for her on our trip.  Do you have anyone from high school that didn’t really get along with,  but when you bump into them you both act like you’re long lost friends?  Yep it’s that kind of relationship, and I’m going to leave it at that.  Well, I mentioned the sighting to my mom, and she looked over and thought I was right.  I didn’t want to say anything, especially if it wasn’t her, but mom said she was going to because it was the right thing to do.

Turns out it was her.  Crazily enough she had been working for the cruise ship at their headquarters in Toronto and had come on the cruise to spend time with her fiance that still works on it.  We chatted a little about how things were going, how her family was, what everyone was up to.  The usual.  Then she said she promised to come find us one night at dinner to introduce us to her fiance, and we parted ways.

 

Not long after that we left to head back to our rooms to relax for a little bit before getting ready for dinner.  We were eating at Animator’s Palate again, and it was Pirate Night!  This is a themed night where you’re encouraged to dress in pirate garb and have a swash buckling good time.  I had, of course, brought a Jake (of Jake and the Never Land Pirates) outfit for Nick to wear to dinner.  I also had a fun pirate shirt to wear that I had originally bought to wear to a pirate party that I had with my Disneymooner friends many years before.

I’m not a huge fan of the Pirate night dinner (it has never changed), but we all had a good time.  Since we were in Animator’s Palate we got to watch some pirate stuff on the screens while we ate.  After dinner is when the fun really happens though.  In the evening (weather permitting) there is a show called Mickey’s Pirates in the Caribbean party up on the pool deck.  It was so windy that we weren’t sure they’d have it (actors jump down from the deck above using ropes), but they did.

 

Sadly we had the start time wrong because there was a little pre-show party before hand, so we went up too early for the show, and had to wait around.  On the bright side though we got a really good spot to watch from the deck above.  We were near the speakers, so I was concerned about how Nick would do, but I needn’t have worried.  He was completely enthralled with the show.  He couldn’t take his eyes off of it.  I should have known he’d love any show that included the characters.

A few hours after the show Disney does a huge fireworks show.  It’s pretty cool to have a private fireworks show like that out at sea, but we knew that it would be far too late for Nick.  To be honest we were all beat and none of us were able to stay up for it.  Of course after his fear of the fireworks show here at home a few months ago I think the decision to skip it was a good one.
