Wordless Wednesday: Saying Goodbye To Tank

Sharing is caring!

Tank 3

I’m going to admit right off that today is far from wordless, but I feel that I can’t do this one justice without words.

Yesterday was a sad day for our family because we had to put my brother’s dog down.  You may remember I wrote about Tank a few months back.  He was a Pit Bull, but he was one of the best dogs I’ve ever known.  He was so loving.  We had to put him down because he had cancer.  He’s only been sick for a couple of weeks.  Last Monday was when we found out that he had cancer, and he was only given three weeks.  My brother felt that Tank was at the point where he was too unhappy and uncomfortable to go on.  To make the whole thing worse he just turned 5 this month, so he wasn’t very old.

Nick, David, and Tank

Tank was so wonderful with Nick.  I know Nick thought Tank was his dog, and I know Tank considered Nick his baby.  Nick loved Tank so much.  Tank was actually one of Nick’s first words.  Whenever I told him we were going to see Nana and Tank he would get so excited and chant Tank over and over.  I honestly don’t know how to explain to him that Tank is gone.  The other day when we were at my mom’s he kept running to the big trees and looking for the dogs on top (he loves Go, Dog. Go!), so we all joked about telling him that Tank went to the big dog party on top of the tree.  I’m really not sure how he’ll be when we go to my mom’s this weekend, but I’m sure he’ll be confused.

Nick's First Christmas and Tank

Tank you were a wonderful dog.  I never thought I’d love a Pit Bull, but none of us could help loving you.  Our little lemon dog that was deaf in one ear.  You will always have a special place in our hearts.  I know it will take Nick awhile to get over you, but the part that really makes us all sad is that we know some day he won’t remember you.  We love you.

The Rainbow Bridge

(Warning: This may make you cry!)

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bride.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….
