Letters To My Son – April 2015

Dear Nick,

Happy birthday month Monkey! In just a few short weeks you’re going to turn 4. I can’t believe it, but I’m dealing with it quite well, if I do say so myself. Now the thought of you turning 5 in a year…that freaks me out! We’ll leave that for another day though.

March turned out to be a pretty nice month. The weather was all over the place, but it was just nice enough for us to go to the park a couple of times. Boy did you like that! You still love going to play at the park. Of course by the end of the month it wasn’t so nice. In fact it was downright cold for the Easter egg hunt, but it did end up being sunny, so the 20 degree temps didn’t feel quite so bad.  You still had a pretty good time at the egg hunt though.

You were way into Toy Story this month. I lost count of how many times we watched Toy Story. We watched the second one a few times, but your favorite movie is the original one. You also have played with your Toy Story toys like crazy. You mostly would recreate scenes from the movie. One of your favorite parts to recreate is when Andy can’t find Buzz after he’s been knocked out of the window. You would constantly walk up to me, carrying Woody by one arm, and say “Mom, I can’t find my Buzz.” Of course then we had to fast forward to the point where Andy can’t find Buzz or Woody. You also loved to play with Mr. Potato Head. You’d put him together and say, “Look, I’m Pitaso!” The fact that he’s saying Picasso hasn’t sunk in. You would follow that line with, “You uncultured swine!” and “What are you looking at you hockey puck?” It’s already obvious that you are going to be able to remember movie lines the way that Daddy does.

I decided this month that we need to focus on reading more. Life over the last year has gotten crazy, so our nightly reading time had gotten pushed by the way side. Usually I was spending that time trying to get things done, but I’ve gotten a better handle on work and the house recently which allowed us to add reading time back in. All too soon you’ll be in school and you’ll be required to read so much every day, so the sooner it becomes a habit for us the better. We both enjoy our reading time. You’re books of choice right now have been Easter books. After I read you usually like to take the book and pretend to read it yourself.

We have a lot of fun stuff planned for April, so I already know that it’s going to be a busy and fun month! I can’t wait to tell you all about it in a few weeks!
