Fisher-Price Rainforest Waterfall Peek-a-Boo Soother
One of the best things I ever did was have a friend of mine review my baby registry. Being a first time mom I had no clue what items I would really need. One item she suggested I add was the Fisher-Price Rainforst Waterfall Peek-a- Boo Soother crib toy. It looked cute, so I decided to add it. It ended up being the first item purchased from my registry. We have gotten so much use out of this toy. I don’t have any regrets about adding it.
Uses
The Fisher-Price Rainforest Waterfall Peek-a-Boo Soother was one of the first toys Nick ever played with. He literally would lay in his crib watching it, while waving his arms and kicking his legs, for close to an hour when he was only a few weeks old. I think he liked it because of the music and the changing lights. At seven months old he still likes to watch it although it’s not his favorite toy any more.
Even though Nick doesn’t necessarily play with his crib toy as much any more we still use it a lot. One way we use it is to wake him up. The first time I had to wake him up to take him to daycare was not pretty. His crises of protest became high pitch screams. I hated that I had to wake him up, but I didn’t have a choice. One day, when I was talking about the wake-up situation, someone told me about how she moves around her daughter’s room making noise when she needs to wake her up. That way it gives her daughter time to wake-up and she feels like waking up is her choice. That comment got me thinking about how I could use the crib toy to wake Nick up. Now I turn it on five minutes before I need to get Nick up. By the time I go to get him from his crib he’s happy and wiggling around. There have been no morning screams or tears since.
Amazingly not only do we use the crib toy to wake Nick up, but we also use it to put him to sleep. Sometimes his Sleep Sheep just isn’t enough to put him to sleep. On those times we turn on the crib toy. It instantly sooths him and before it’s done playing he is asleep. I wish I had discovered this months ago!
Cons
As with so many children’s toys, one of the worst parts of this crib toy is that it goes through a lot of batteries. Add to that the fact that it takes 4Cs.
The other thing that I don’t like about the crib toy is how it connects to the crib. The plastic straps don’t easily slide on and off the plastic tabs (although that’s good for safety purposes). The straps also aren’t very long, limiting where it can be placed on the crib. Due to the design of our crib we could not put the toy on the back of it. Our only options were the sides (which aren’t good if you want the baby to see it) or the front. The back of the toy actually has a warning that says that it won’t fit all crib styles and other strings should not be added to make it fit.
Another thing that is both good and bad is how easily the toy can be turned on. It’s good if you have an older child and you want them to be able to turn it on to play with it. It hasn’t been so good for my son. He loves to lift his feet in the air and at some point while doing it he ends up rolling to his side. Sometimes when doing this in his crib his feet have hit the button turning it on while he should be sleeping which causes him to wake all of the way up. I have had many mad dashes up the stairs to turn it off during early morning hours.
Features
The Fisher-Price Rainforest Waterfall Peek-a-Boo Soother gives parents a lot of choices on how they want it to run. It can play only music, music and rainforest sounds, or only the rainforest sounds. Parents can also choose whether they want only the sound to play, the sound to play with the light show, or if they want the sounds, the lights, and the characters moving. There are also three volume settings. The toy plays for about 8 minutes.

Good job Elizabeth, I have enjoyed reading all the things you do for Nick. I had fun today showing everyone the pictures I have of him. They thought that he was a big boy for being 7 months. Love you.
