Five Places You Don’t Clean That Will Get Noticed
This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of BISSELL Homecare, Inc. for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I always try to keep my home clean. Not squeaky clean, but I make sure the basics are always done. I basically clean the places that can be found. Every week I vacuum the open spaces of the floor, and the seats of the furniture. I also dust all of the flat surfaces. I don’t move everything around to clean though. I found when I used to clean that way that it would take me weeks to get one round of house cleaning done. My house always looks decent, but I do try to do a thorough cleaning of one room every week because if I don’t then the spot cleaning won’t look nearly as good. When I do this I clean everything from top to bottom. Here are some cleaning tips on five places that I make sure I don’t miss because if I do others will likely notice the dirt.
- Stairs and Railings – I must say that cleaning the stairs can be a major pain. It doesn’t matter whether it’s my carpeted stairs, or the cement ones to the basement, but they need to be done.
- Ceiling Corners – Have you ever taken the time to really look up in your house? If you don’t make sure to periodically clean the edges of the ceiling then you will eventually get cobwebs. Even if the rest of your house is spotless they will come, and they will make your house look dirty.
- Underneath Furniture – I think a lot of people forget about what’s under the furniture because it isn’t seen. If you have pets, or hardwood floors, then you’re going to find that those hidden areas get really dirty. Every once in awhile you should move the furniture around and vacuum underneath.
- Window and Door Frames – Those frames are another place where cobwebs can easily form. Plus have you ever really looked at the window track? Wow can that thing get filthy!
- Behind the Bathroom Toilet – Personally I like to often forget that there is an area behind the toilet. So much nastiness can form back there from so much moist dust, and other things.

What hidden places do you make sure to clean in your house?

I totally agree with the areas you listed:) I hate behind the toilet the most…it’s nasty and hard to reach:(
I use to be more fussy with cleaning but now that I have two little ones it is hard to find the time. I spot clean like you said and I make sure all the floors get washed and vacuumed but I don’t dust as thoroughly as I use too.
Dusting is the worst. It’s always the last thing I do and I often don’t get through all of it, and sometimes not at all. I’m so lazy when it comes to dusting. LOL
Behind the toilet? Ick. okay okay…I’ll go clean now!
Let’s see… I hate when people don’t clean aka vacuum the little nooks that can be beside the carpet and wall (like if the carpet doesn’t “fully” cover to the wall). I must every single time go through and get all those little nooks and crannies on the floor or it makes my OCD go crazy. LOL
Ceiling fan blades. Those things get so nasty. I looked up at one of ours the other day and was shocked.
With 2 kids, 2 dogs, and a husband, I really could use a new vacuum cleaner. I swear, I think my house is getting dustier and dustier. My husband says it’s because of our carpet. (I think it may be because of our old vacuum cleaner.)
Um, rarely do I get any hidden places. Sometimes under the coffee table. The places that are out in the open usually look good, though, but with 3 kids you really never know.
I hate cleaning behind the toilet too 🙂 But with three males in my house I have to clean it pretty much everyday thanks to the messes they create. It would be much easier with girls!
Oh boys can be so messy! There are days when I contemplate just leaving Nick in diapers. 😉
Of course you name off all of the places I hate to clean. lol My big one is window frames.
There’s a reason they made my list. 😉 I used to always forget about the ceilings. Oh my the cobwebs I used to find! We got some really bad ones in the back hall when they were adding the bathroom. It was just so dirty and with the mess it was impossible to clean.
I always forget those places, especially the ceiling corners. Maybe I should go around and hit those spots today.
That’s the spot that I forget the most too. Maybe it’s because I’m so short. They’re just so far away, and cleaning them can be such a pain.
I’m awful at getting those hidden places…although we are pretty good about getting the area behind the toilet clean! Having a 4-year-old boy will do that…if we let it go too long, the whole bathroom stinks like pee. :-/ Gross, I know (lol…have fun potty training!).
We don’t have stairs and this is one of the reasons why…I’m nervous about having one more thing to keep clean, I kind of suck at cleaning to begin with!
This Bissell looks awesome, though…I hate our giant and clunky vaccuum.
Haha thanks a lot! I think my days until potty training are limited too. I never thought I’d be one to avoid it, but I’m really not looking forward to it. Diapers just seem so easy!
