There are so many wonderful dips to choose from to make for a party appetizer, but there is just something about a good spinach dip that really hits the spot. This Knorr spinach dip recipe is especially yummy because it’s extra creamy and tastes amazing.
Ingredients Needed for this Recipe for Spinach Dip
- Knorr Vegetable Recipe Mix – It wouldn’t be a Knorr spinach dip without a Knorr mix to add flavor to the dip!
- Frozen Spinach – You can use fresh spinach with this recipe (find out how farther down the post!), but I find that frozen spinach makes things easier. With frozen you can purchase it well in advance and not have to worry about the spinach staying fresh until you’re ready to make the dip.
- Sour Cream – This recipe calls for an entire 16 oz tub of sour cream. This contributes to the creamy texture and helps hold everything together.
- Mayo – The other ingredient that helps make this dip so creamy is the mayo. It’s very important that you use true mayo and not Miracle Whip. The flavor and creaminess just won’t be the same without the mayo.
- Water Chestnuts – The water chestnuts really add to this dip because they give the dip a bit of a crunch. If you’ve never bought water chestnuts before you should be able to find them in the Asian section of your grocery store. If your store is anything like mine you might have to hunt around the shelves because they don’t carry many options, but you should find them.
- Dill – If you are not a dill fan you can leave this ingredient out, but I personally think the dill adds just that extra bit of flavor that this dip needs.
- Pumpernickel Bread – I know not everyone likes pumpernickel, but there is something about it that just pairs amazingly with spinach dip.

How to Make Knorr Spinach Dip
This spinach dip is easy to make, but you might have a few extra steps depending on the ingredients you use. Even with those modifications it still isn’t difficult.
First open up the can of water chestnuts and drain them. If, like is the case for me, the only option at your store is diced water chestnuts they might need a little slicing to get the pieces smaller. I just take a butter knife and move it around the can in a cutting motion. If you were able to buy sliced water chestnuts you should be fine, but you can use a knife to cut those as well if they feel too large to you.
Once your water chestnuts are ready it’s time to combine the ingredients. In a large bowl add the sour cream, mayonnaise, water chestnuts, dill, and Knorr vegetable mix and then stir it all together.
You might notice that the image above does not appear to have any dill added. That’s because I forgot to add it even though it was sitting right next to me, so I had to add it later which caused me to have an additional mixing step. Don’t be like me and add the dill during this step!
Now it’s time for the spinach. Hopefully, you were able to find frozen chopped spinach. I was not able to find chopped in my store, so I had to use cut-leaf spinach. I do find the cut pieces are a bit too thick for my liking for the dip, so I cut the pieces before adding them in. It is a bit of a tedious step, but I think the dip works much better with small pieces.
Once your spinach is to the size of your liking add it to the dip and mix it in. If you are still finding some bigger frozen chunks you can use the spoon or spatula you’re mixing with to break them up.
Now your dip is all done! It’s best to cover it and place it in the refrigerator to cool for at least two hours before serving. If you’re going to be traveling somewhere with the dip I recommend putting it in a travel-safe container at this point.
How to Serve Spinach Dip
If you’re serving this spinach dip at a party the best way to serve it would be to put the dip in a bowl and have a plater or other bowls holding the items that you choose to serve with it. Pieces of pumpernickel bread are my favorite, but you could also serve it with crackers, tortilla chips, or cut vegetables such as carrots or celery.
The serving dishes you use truly are a personal preference, but the items served at the party (and the space they take up) could play an impact as well. Some people like to use serving pieces for each dip and their dipping items, while others like to put out a bunch of dips in different bowls and make up a platter with different dipping pieces.
One thing to think about is the smaller of the bowl you use the more often you’ll need to keep refilling it with dip. So, keep that in mind when you’re deciding what serving pieces to use.

How to Make this Dip with Fresh Spinach
If you do not want to use frozen spinach you can make this dip with fresh spinach. It does add a few extra steps, but it is completely doable.
If you want to go fresh then you’ll need 1 pound worth of fresh spinach leaves. You’ll need to cook the spinach before adding it to the dip. Simply follow the cooking instructions on the bag of spinach. Once it is cooked you need to remove the liquid and moisture from the spinach. You can do this with a clean kitchen towel. I would use a dark-colored one that will be ok if it gets green from the spinach on it.
How Long will Spinach Dip Last in the Fridge?
You should be able to keep this spinach dip in the fridge for up to a week. The one thing to note though is that the frozen spinach does release some water into the dip over time, so you will find some water separation as the dip sits. The water separation does not hurt the dip or affect the flavor in anyway. Just make sure to stir the dip up before serving it to mix everything back together.
