Letters To My Son – July 2015
July 3, 2015
Dear Nick,
Happy Independence Day a day early! I know you don’t fully understand the meaning behind Independence Day, but we’ve been talking about it some. At least the fireworks that are going off every night while we’re trying to sleep can be a learning tool. Positive thinking right?
It’s hard to believe that it’s already July and that we are wrapping up our third week of summer vacation! It’s going by far too quickly. You have loved being able to stay home more to play and relax. We have been doing some home schooling which you adore. You have really enjoyed working on learning your ABC’s (we’ve been working on “C” this week), and you especially enjoy all of the one-on-one time with Mommy. Truthfully with Mommy working so much I think you just like having my attention all on you, but that’s fine with me. I have found that it’s harder to function as your teacher than I would have thought. If you don’t want to do something I have a hard time pushing you to do it, and truthfully your stubborn nature kicks in and you simply don’t care. You really soak up the learning, but doing anything with your hands (drawing, writing, or cutting) just doesn’t go as well. You really didn’t inherit my love for arts and crafts.
June turned out to be quite a busy month for us. Amazingly it should have been even busier but we got rained out of some activities. Of course you had your last day of 3 year preschool in June. That was hard to believe, but at least there is still another year of preschool to go. I’m really not ready to even think about kindergarten, but I’m going to have to soon. I pulled up your first day of preschool picture and compared it to your last day of school picture. It was amazing to see how much you had changed in just one year of school. I wish there was a pause button I could push so you wouldn’t grow up so fast!
Your cousins came to visit in June so that kept us busy as well. One night while they were here we went to a Toledo Mud Hens game. The entire family went and it was a lot of fun. You had a hard time sitting and watching the game for any length of time, but there were a lot of things for us to do there. You especially liked the play area. Give you a playground and you’re always a happy camper.
We also went with them to the Toledo Zoo. That was fun as well, but you decided that you liked the baseball game best. Breakfast didn’t stick with you very well the day that we went to the Zoo and that caused you to be quite cranky until we got you a snack. Of course being cranky caused you to get in trouble, and you never like that. You enjoyed seeing the animals, but for many of them you were ready to move on after a quick look. You were behaving a lot like Mommy. I can enjoy visiting a zoo, but it’s never really been my thing. Of course they had a great play area as well. I still don’t know whether you liked the huge play structure best or the play stream that you could walk through.
We certainly have been enjoying our summer vacation this year, and I’m excited to see what the month of July holds for us. Right now we don’t have a lot planned, but lots of relaxing time together is pretty great.
Love,
Mommy
