Letters To My Son – March 2013

Sharing is caring!

Dear Nick,

I’m sure I sound like a broken record, but I’m so glad that February is done! It might be the shortest month of the year, but it has felt so long. It has been cold and nasty. I’m not sure that there has been a week that didn’t have at least one snow day. This means that we have been home together a lot. Now I haven’t minded that.  It did allow me to do special things with you at daycare.  I think you’re over being cooped up though.  Just the other day Daddy said he couldn’t wait for nice weather so we could take you outside again, and we both agreed that you were likely going to be an outdoor kid. On a happy note though I noticed two days ago that our spring flowers were starting to come up, so spring is coming!

Last month I said that you had been sick a lot. Well, you just couldn’t seem to get better.  You got to the point where you weren’t eating well, and you weren’t sleeping well because you would cough all night long. Even everyone at the daycare was trying to figure out what was wrong with you.  We all knew something was just not right, and I finally decided it was time to take you to the doctor.  Your doctor is still on a personal leave, so we had to see a different doctor.  She seemed nice, but I was not impressed with her opinions.  She tried to convince me that babies and toddlers don’t get sinus infections.  She really didn’t want to give you antibiotics, but she finally did.  I think the fact that you weighed so little (22lbs 13.5oz 5%) and weren’t eating well was what finally swayed her.  Whatever the reason I’m glad she did it because within 2 hours of your first dose you were back to your old happy self.  It just reinforced to me the notion that Mom’s know the best and they have to fight for what they know is right for their little ones.  Of course almost as soon as you were finally back to normal you brought home the stomach flu (which you of course shared with us), so now you’re just getting back to yourself yet again.

You have changed so much this month!  You never cease to amaze us with what you do and say.  Your vocabulary has grown by leaps and bounds and you’re starting to put two words together.  You can even answer some of my questions that can’t be answered with yes or no!  For example, if I ask if you want to watch Mickey or Jake you can tell me.  I do find it a bit odd though that you say Ickey instead of Mickey.  It seems that like your Uncle David you focus on the ending sound of a word (although you can’t blame it on multiple ear infections).  I don’t even know you’re saying milk until I hear that major k sound you make at the end.  I’m sure that won’t last though.  You have truly changed so much that Mommy and Daddy talk about it all the time.

I’m so excited for March.  Spring will start to arrive (along with more snowstorms I’m sure).  This month is Mommy’s birthday, St. Patrick’s Day (remember that because you’ve got Irish blood in you), and we get to end the month with a family wedding and Easter!  It’s going to be a busy and crazy month, and I can’t wait to see how much you change during it.

Love,

Mommy

  1. I love this. The whole talking/growing thing just amazes me. Also I am very ready for Spring as well! Beautiful letter! I loved the photos. His slippers are so cute!

  2. I’m sorry he’s been sick. It’s so hard when they are little, and you feel like you just can’t do enough to make them feel better. Glad to hear he’s doing better though!

    1. It seems to be a really bad year for it. Luckily the real (not stomach flu) hasn’t come around because Nick wasn’t allowed a flu shot because of his egg allergy.

  3. It’s so interesting how they learn to talk, isn’t it? My oldest would just make the first sound of a word and didn’t use two syllables for a long time…my youngest always tries to say the whole word.

Glad he is feeling better! Jack is sitting with me while I read this post and he loves the Scooby slippers!

  4. I love it. I wish I had done something like this for my children. So much fun to read what Nick has done. Love to all.
