Nick’s First Vacation: A Day At Sea (Part 1)

Sharing is caring!

It always amazes that whenever we take a cruise, a time when I can relax and sleep in, I’m always up with the sun.  On our first day at sea I was up at 6:45.  Of course that time is almost sleeping in at home, and since I fell asleep so early I had gotten a decent amount of sleep and I felt very rested.

Being so awake meant that I was able to get up and around for the day quickly.  When I was done Nick and Jason were both still out cold, but that wasn’t going to stop me from enjoying my cruise time.  What I needed right then was a warm cup of hot chocolate, so I grabbed my room key and headed up to the pool deck to get one.

Once I had gotten my drink I headed back to the room.  The boys were both still asleep, so I went in quietly, grabbed my book, and curled up in the big chair by the port hole.  It was so nice and relaxing.  That kind of me time is so rare.  I suppose that makes the time that I do get it that much more enjoyable.

I read for quite awhile, but then my IBS started to act up.  To try and calm it down I decided to go back up to the pool deck and get some pop to sip on.  When I was almost to the fountain machines I ran into mom as she was just heading back to her room after getting a cup of coffee. She waited for me and then we headed back to sit on her balcony and drink our drinks while we waited for Nick to get up so we could go to breakfast.

We had both gotten up around the same time, so as 8:00 neared we were both starving. We were about to give up and get some food without Nick when Jason called me to let me know that Nick was up. One of the best things Disney has done on their ships is to put two special ship cellphones in each stateroom. As soon as the ship starts sailing we have to turn off our personal cellphones since we don’t want any international phone charges. This meant that there used to be no way to get in touch with each other while roaming the ship. With the new phones though we could call and text each other and we could carry the phones with us anywhere we went, and one phone could call the other room phone.

Since Nick was up I left mom and went back to my room to get him dressed. After such a good night sleep Nick was in a fabulous mood. He’s never real happy about getting changed, but it went fast and he was more than happy to go see Nana and go up and get some food. Finally it was time to eat!

We headed upstairs to the breakfast buffet.  There was so much food to choose from.  I avoided my daily yogurt since dairy is bad for my IBS and I made sure to get some eggs to help it.  Of course I always have to have a chocolate croissant while in Disney.  I had one at my wedding, so now I make sure to have one every time we are there.  On this morning it was good, but sadly all the other days they were dry.  Nick had some Froot Loops and a yogurt.  He ate pretty well.

When we were done eating we headed back to the room to take Jason some breakfast.  Then we tried to decide what to do.  There was supposed to be a Disney Junior Dance Party at 8:30 that I thought Nick would like.  It had already started at that point, but we didn’t think that it was too late to go.  I thought it was on the pool deck, but when we got up there the place was empty (it was actually in D Lounge).  Since that was a bust we decided to head down to Deck 5 and get going on our daily three mile walk.  Nick loves walks, so he was more than happy to be pushed along.  Jason joined us when we were around the half way point..  He said that he had seen the characters inside and that Mickey was out.  Mickey was scheduled to be out at 9:00 and 10:00 and I was hoping to catch him when he was out at 10:00.  Nick still needed to have his special visit with the mouse.

We finished our walk a little after 10:00.  Sadly we were all hot and sweaty since it was crazy humid out (it had even rained some that morning), but I didn’t want to miss the mouse.  We found where Mickey was hanging out and went to join the line.  When we got there a cast member told us that the family in front of us was the last family that Mickey was going to see.  I couldn’t believe that it had happened to us again!  I was so disappointed, but there wasn’t anything we could do about it.  We weren’t sure what to do at that point, but we decided to head up to our rooms until we decided on something.
