Is there anything better than a family movie night? It’s quality family time that doesn’t cost more than a few snacks (of which
Pop Secret popcorn is a must) and maybe a movie rental. Of course some movie nights can turn out better than others, so I’ve got five tips to help you create the perfect movie night. With these tips your kids will be begging for another one!
1. Pick the Right Movie

This is the trickiest part of movie night. If you start with a fight over which movie to watch than your family time will likely have a dark cloud hanging over it. Is there a movie you know every has wanted to see? If so I’d go with that one, but it’s not always that easy. Maybe you need to rotate who’s turn it is to pick the movie. Of course it could also be easier if mom or dad picks the movie and the kids know they have to watch that. Just figure out what system works best for your family and go from there. For our movie night we went
Frozen because my mom hadn’t seen it yet.
2. Create a Relaxing Atmosphere

One thing I love about watching a movie at home instead of in the theater is that you can sit wherever and however you want. Throw some pillows on the floor. Get out some blankets for snuggling. Your kids will love it, and best of all they can move around as they please. Nick is all over the place when we watch a long movie. He stands by me, by the T.V., lays on the couch, sits in someone’s lap….you get the picture.
3. Make it Themed
How fun is it to have a go theme with your movie night? Pull out stuffed animals or toys that are from the movie. Get dressed up as a character from the movie. Make food that is related to the movie. You can really have fun with this, and you can do as much or as little as you like. Little kids will especially think this is blast.
4. Favorite Food
Of course you have to have everyone’s favorite movie food. For some these could be snacky things, but it could be bigger things too. Now this includes drinks as well. If you get the favorites of all your family members than you’ll be good to go.
5. Make Perfect Pop Secret Popcorn!

You can have a ton of great snacky foods, but a movie isn’t a movie without popcorn. My personal favorite is Pop Secret popcorn and now I have an app that helps me make the perfect bag of it! I have always found it annoying to stand by the microwave listening to the sound of the popcorn popping trying to figure out when it’s done. The bag gives an estimated cooking time, but we all know every microwave is different. I’m always stopping it too soon because I do not want my popcorn to burn. What a waste that is! Over the weekend I got to try the new Pop Secret Perfect Pop app and let me tell you it is amazing! The popcorn that it helped make was the best I have
ever made. No joke! It was so good the three of us ate the whole box! The bag said to cook the popcorn for 4 minutes, but all 3 times the app told me to stop the microwave before I had reached 2 minutes. For each bag I cooked the app told me to stop the microwave at a slightly different time, so it really is paying attention.
The Pop Secret Popcorn “Perfect Popcorn” app is available for free in the iTunes App Store. Use it with your iPhone 5+ on iOS 7+ (although it worked just fine on my old school iPhone4).
How the Pop Secret Popcorn “Perfect Pop” App works

1. Put a bag of Pop Secret in the microwave and enter suggested cooking time from the packaging. Note: Perfect Pop is optimized for the deliciousness of Pop Secret popcorn only.
2. Turn up the volume on your iPhone. Point the phone’s speaker towards the microwave and keep within 3 feet.
3. Start the microwave, and then start the app.
4. Enjoy the fun facts it tells you, and the fun picture of popping popcorn (it mesmerized Nick) while your popcorn cooks.
5. When it says so turn your microwave off!
6. Enjoy!

There you have it. Five easy steps to a fun family movie night at home that’s sure to not disappoint. I hope yours turns out to be as much fun, and yummy, as ours was!

This app sounds like a lot of fun! Especially if the kids can watch it. I will have to get it!
Thanks for sharing, movie night wouldn’t be the same without popcorn!

Great tips! Movie nights get easier once they become teens. They like alot of the same things we do. Just getting everyone together at the same time is the hardest part with busy teens. Thanks for the tips 🙂 Have a great weekend!
Yay Frozen! I usually make a rule for movie night that it has to be one we haven’t seen…so I usually get to pick it! LOL
