Nick’s First Vacation: The House Of The Mouse (Part 2)

Sharing is caring!

I had wanted to be on the road by 9:00, but by the time we had loaded up the car, got Nick all situated, and stopped at a McDonald’s to get me a mocha (migraine watch day three), it was more like 9:30.  My plan had been to arrive at Disney with time to spare before our dinning reservation.  While we were later than I had wanted we still weren’t so late that we wouldn’t be able to check-in before we went to eat.

The first half of the morning was so nice.  For awhile Nick watched his shows in the back.  He ate a little cereal and drank some milk (his cup decided to work again).  Jason and I relaxed up front and had some nice conversations.  One of the things I love about vacation is that we get to spend time talking because nothing is distracting us and there are no things that we have to worry about doing.

After awhile I saw that Nick was looking sleepy, so I reached back and turned off the tablet.  In no time he was asleep.  I knew that with our busy afternoon he wouldn’t be taking a nap, so I had really wanted him to take one during the morning.  Sadly though he had only slept about an hour and a half when we pulled into the Florida Welcome Station which of course woke him up.

I love spending time at the Florida Welcome Station, bu that day we made it a short visit.  We had hardly gotten back on the road when Nick got really fussy.  We decided that he was probably hungry.  Due to our 3:30 dining reservation we weren’t planning on stopping for lunch.  Instead we pulled off of the highway and into a little parking lot, so that we could move things around so I could sit in the back with Nick.  I grabbed some snacks as well so that I could give him things to eat.

That kept him happy for a bit.  He started getting fussy again when we were near the next rest stop, so we decided to pull off to stretch our legs.  I took Nick’s hand when we got out and he was very happy to walk around with me.  This particular rest stop had stairs that you had to climb to get to the bathrooms, and he really liked going up and down them.  When we got back into the car I got in the back to play with him again.  He was happy with his toys for a few minutes, but then he just wasn’t very happy.  You could tell that he had had enough of sitting in the car.  I tried a lot of different things, but nothing seemed to work.

At the last rest stop before the turn pike Jason pulled off so that I could get back into the front seat.  I couldn’t seem to do anything to make Nick happy, and I needed to be up front to help get the money ready for the toll booths.  Nick watched the tablet for a little bit, but half way through the turn pike he just lost all control.  He was crying, and screaming, and we wished with all our might that Disney wasn’t another 20 minutes away!  It sure made for a long last leg of the trip, but finally we were driving under the arch!

It was nearing 3:00, but we decided to try checking in at The All-Star Movies before heading to Downtown Disney for lunch.  We got lucky and we were the first people in the online check-in line.  I had pre-checked us in, but we still had to let them know we were there and pick up our room keys.  We only had a few minutes to wait before we got to the counter.  Check-in was easy and I was very happy to hear that we had a room in the Buzz Lightyear building.  I figured Nick would like that one, and it wasn’t close to the pool, so we didn’t have to worry about too much noise.

As soon as we were done checking-in we headed back to the car.  We only had about twenty minutes until our dining reservation.  Hmmm surprise, surprise, it was mid afternoon in Florida, and wouldn’t you know it?  Tut, tut, it looked like rain.
