Christmas Is Already Over

I feel like a broken record because I say this so much, but seriously, time is just flying by!  It doesn’t even feel possible that Christmas can be over, and yet a week ago today was Christmas Eve!  The last week and a half has been crazy.  I’ve been trying to get things done, and yet I can’t seem to find enough time.  Yes, before you even ask, I’m still trying to pack all of Nick’s stuff up.  I haven’t even been able to find much time to write any blog posts, but as you may have noticed we’ve been working hard to redesign the blog so that it’s more user friendly.  I’m getting off topic though.  Back to our crazy Christmas weekend.

Thursday, December 20th, had been a half day of work for me, and when I got home I was officially on Christmas break!  Both Thursday afternoon, and all of Friday, were pretty relaxed. I spent my time playing with Nick and cleaning the house. It was wonderful!

Saturday started off much the same way. I had planned on packing for our night away and doing some more cleaning while Nick took a nap, but it seemed Nick hadn’t liked that plan because he took a very short nap and then was very cranky for the rest of our time at home. Luckily though he did great at my mom’s (his first night away from us). I also had a wonderful time catching up with my old friends at my class reunion, and Jason survived it (those things are rarely fun for the spouses). We also enjoyed our evening together although I slept terribly that night (Jason blames it on being away from Nick).

On Sunday we did Christmas with Jason’s family. We picked Nick up from my mom’s and then went to meet the family for lunch out. We had some trouble with the restaurant we had planned on eating at not being open, but we worked that out.  Lunch was nice although they brought Nick’s food with the soup course (I know they were trying, but this never works well), but luckily we had the tablet and he was very happy to watch Mickey while we ate our main course.  Overall Nick was such a good boy.

Present time went fairly well.  Nick could have cared less about opening presents, but he liked playing with them.  We didn’t even stay for an hour at Jason’s mom’s house though because Nick was done at the end of lunch.  He did get a pick me up from his gifts, but it only lasted so long.  He of course fell asleep on the way home and only got a short nap.  He woke up in a decent mood though (after some snuggling with mommy) and had a great time helping daddy build his Fisher-Price Cruise and Groove Ballapalooza.

Most of Monday was quiet.  Nick played with his new toys and took a nap while I tried to find a place for all of the gifts that we had received the day before.  It was only Christmas Eve and yet my house looked like a Christmas tornado had gone through it.  We had planned on going to church in the evening, but we had the time wrong.  We thought it was at 5:00, but it turned out to be at 5:30 which meant that Nick would miss dinner, and that wouldn’t have been pretty in church, so we decided not to go.  Sometimes you just have to do what’s right for your kid.

Later that evening we went over to my Aunt’s.  Nick had the best time playing with his cousins.  It’s always so much fun to see him interact with other kids.  At times they tried to keep him away (they had some small toy pieces and were worried), but Nick would have none of it and just kept shoving his way in.  You can tell that he has gotten used to going to day care.

Last year we started a new family tradition of doing a gift card exchange game on Christmas Eve.  It’s like the White Elephant game where you can choose to open a gift card or steal one that someone else has.  This year it went even better than last year.  My Aunt put all of the gift cards in a basket which Nick decided to later carry around with our gift cards in it.  We all joked that he had his holidays confused.

After the game there were some presents for the kids to open.  Then we packed things up and headed home.  We set out milk and cookies for Santa on the special dishes that Nick’s Elf on the Shelf had brought that morning.  We also put out 9 carrots (you never know if Rudolph will be coming or not).  Then I got Nick into his Christmas jammies and put him to bed.  He was full of energy though, so it took him some time to fall asleep.  While he played in bed I played Santa and got everything set-up under the tree.  Then I got ready for bed and turned on White Christmas.  Jason got home from work when the movie was about 40 minutes from the end.

On Christmas morning I woke up somewhat early so that I could get dressed and ready before Nick woke up.  Of course he chose to sleep in that day.  I jumped on getting him up when he started stiring at 8:30 because I wanted to do presents before I made breakfast.  When I brought him downstairs he got so excited when he saw his Santa present.  He had so much fun playing with it that it was some time before he realized that we were opening up his other presents and there were more fun things to play with!

When we were done with presents I made breakfast.  Since we had already done Christmas with Jason’s family we were able to spend the morning relaxing.  We put on the Disney Christmas Parade and Nick played with his toys while I worked on picking up the holiday mess.

After lunch Jason went to work and Nick and I went out to my mom’s.  I timed it so Nick would take a nap on the way, but he woke up when we got there, so it ended up being a fairly short one.  We opened presents as soon as we got there.  Nick still wasn’t into opening presents, but he really loved a lot of the ones he got.  I think his favorite was Mickey’s shoe garage that came with a toy Toodles which he loved (and kept hugging!).

Almost as soon as we were done with presents we went next door to my grandparents for Christmas dinner with the family.  Nick was such a good boy, and he had the best time playing with some of his new toys.  After dinner we opened presents one more time.  I had asked my grandparents to get Nick the new Fisher-Price Disney train and he loved it!  We didn’t stay too late though because we were both exhausted and ready to crash.  As we were driving away it was hard to believe that Christmas was already over!
