How To Decide Which Swing To Get
Not all babies take to swings, but many do. For the parents of babies that like the swing it is often a God send. I know I wondered what we ever would have done without it. I’ve said before that if you can only have one swing then you should go with a portable swing. I still feel this way, but if you can afford a big swing as well, and have the space for it, then don’t hesitate to get one.
When Jason and I started our registry we really didn’t know what we were doing. We hadn’t done any research prior to registering. We just went in and chose items that we liked the look of. This was especially true for the swing. Months went by and the first baby shower neared. I started to question and review the items on our registry. A good friend of mine offered to go over my registry and give me some advice. The best advices she gave me for the big swing was to get one that would give you the choice of swinging front to back or side to side because some babies prefer one way over the other. She also said to get one that plugs into the wall. This may cause the swing to cost more initially, but it will save your a fortune on batteries.
With these tips in mind I started researching big swings. I eventually decided on the Fisher-Price My Little Snugabunny Cradle n’ Swing. I initially wondered if it was too girly looking, but I quickly got over that thought.
Pros
We all loved this swing. The seat looked like a giant pillow because the material was so soft and fluffy. Many people commented that it looked so comfy that they wished they could have one for themselves. The swing had four different sounds/music melody buttons. They were wonderful for calming Nick down and helping him sleep.
Right above the baby is a mirror and mobile. It is set-up so that when the baby is swinging the mirror and mobile move with him. Nick didn’t get much use out of these toys early on, but as he got older, and his vision got better, he enjoyed them.
The swing has six different speed settings. For the most part we only used the first speed, but at the end we had to use the second speed to compensate for Nick’s weight.
I loved the height the swing was at and that the seat had two different positions. When Nick was younger he usually sat in the more upright position. He was often very happy to sit in the swing and just watch the world go by. It certainly helped make my life easier.
Cons
Probably the biggest problem with the Fisher-Price My Little Snugabunny Cradle n’ Swing is that it’s so big. When we took ours down a couple months ago I couldn’t believe how much space we opened up. The cord to plug it in also isn’t real long, so you need a large place close to a plug to put the swing in.
The only other thing we didn’t like about the swing was how fast it moved. Even on the slowest setting it seemed to whip Nick back and forth (especially when he didn’t weigh much). This was a problem with our portable swing as well though, so I assume that this is just an average swing problem.
A Favorite Product
I think it’s safe to say that the Fisher-Price My Little Snugabunny Cradle n’ Swing was one of the best baby items we had. I will always be grateful to the friend that bought it for us because it made our lives so much easier. Nick sat in it, played in it, and slept in it. Both Jason and I got a little choked up when the day to take it down finally came. Now the entire thing is being stored in a 15 gallon tote in the attic waiting for the day it can come out again.
