Letters to my Son - June 2013

June 7, 2013
Dear Nick,

Happy unofficial summer time!  You don’t believe me?  That’s because our weather has been nuts.  For the last month we’ve gone back and fort from sweating to freezing.  I actually had to dig your winter coat back out for you to wear to school the day after Mother’s Day!  Luckily, for the most part, it’s been warm enough for you to play outside a lot.  We’ve had a lot of fun outside too.  I’ve been able to stay home more with you lately, so we’ve been going for walks, playing at the park, and playing in the yard.  I must say I’m not a big fan of the word “away” right now though because I hear it all the time.  As soon as we finish breakfast you’re grabbing my hand and saying “away” because you want me to take you outside to play.  Getting anything done has become extremely difficult.

Playing with the Lilac

For the most part May was a quiet month.  Nothing terribly exciting went on.  We did go out for Mother’s Day brunch at a nice restaurant in town.  You were a very good boy, but you were still ready to leave before Mommy and Daddy were.  Other than that the only exciting thing was when we found out you could eat peanut butter.  That is still a big relief to Mommy.

Peanut Butter Cheerios

Okay, I lied, there was something exciting this month.  We booked our trip to Walt Disney World!  We got a great deal with the free dining plan.  Since you’re two you’re free, and most of our food will be free, so we figured we couldn’t let that pass us by.  Daddy can’t come though since he has to work, which is a bummer, so Nana is coming with us instead.  Of course this moment didn’t mean much to you, but it was for me.  I will say that after telling you we are going to “Mickey’s House” a few times you now say that to me.

You changed a lot this month.  Just the other day I was telling Nana how amazed I was by the changes in you that had happened since your birthday.  You’re starting to become very independent.  You’ll now walk next to us without wanting to hold our hand.  You even told me “no” one time when I said you had to hold my hand because we were going into a parking lot.  Yeah, that one didn’t fly with Mommy.

More Sand and cruise Toys

You’re talking a ton too.  You’re putting words together like crazy.  You’ve said as many as five words together.  In fact, a favorite statement of yours is, “Oh no!  I broke it!”  You seem to think that breaking things is fun.  Luckily you only do it with things that actually come apart like Legos.  You are also starting to tell us what you want.  I can’t tell you how much easier that makes things for all of us.  Well, it sometimes makes things easier.  Sometimes we’ll give you what we thought you asked for only to have you get mad and push it away.  This happens a lot with your milk, or “nook” as it sounds to us.  I’m still trying to figure out if “nook” is actually something else, but nothing else seems to make sense.

Playing on the Slide

While you’re outside a lot you have been watching some new movies lately.  You’re favorite at the moment is Toy Story, or Toy Story 2 to be more specific.  Your love of Buzz and Woody came when Nana got out Uncle David’s old Buzz toys.  You knew right away that Buzz was supposed to fly, and from then on you’ve been a huge fan.  Daddy and I both agreed that was a movie that we easily could watch over and over with you.

Mother's Day Brunch 2013

Right now June isn’t looking to be a big month, but hopefully they’ll start our new bathroom and fix our yucky uh-oh ceiling mess.  Today is a big day though because you’re going back to the allergist.  I have everything crossed that there are signs that show that you’re outgrowing your egg allergy.  Hopefully you do better at the doctors than you did at your two year well visit!

Love,

Mom
