Letters To My Son – December 2014

Dear Nick,

I ended last month’s letter talking about our kitty Oliver that had gotten really sick. At the beginning of November we had to put him down. It took you awhile to realize that Oliver was gone, and when we finally discussed it you handled it really well.  Mommy on the other hand had a very hard time dealing with it. Our other kitty Dodger had a hard time with it too, but it’s been a month now and we’re all doing better.  My plan is adopt a new kitty in the next few months. One that is all yours.November turned out to be another sick month for you.  You got a bad cold, in fact we all got it, but you had it the worst. The cold ended up going into your eyes.  That’s typical for you, but this time it caused an infection in your eye.  I was pretty freaked out when the day before Thanksgiving you woke up with a bloody eye.  I knew it was coincidental, but the fact that Oliver had gotten an eye infection, with a bloody eye as well, right before we put him down kind of freaked me out even more! It didn’t help that the doctor’s office seemed really concerned too, but it all turned out to be fine.  Antibiotics took care of everything.

You are getting so excited for Christmas.  You have all these ideas about how Christmas works, and we don’t know where they came from. For example, out of the blue you started telling us that Santa was going to bring you the Paw Patrol Tower.  We had no clue you understood the concept of Santa.  That hadn’t been what we had planned on Santa bringing you, so that caused a big present change on our end!  You also saw the presents under Nana’s tree and thought Santa had brought them. We had a hard time convincing you that those ones were from Mommy and Nana.

You have also hit the point where your starting to understand fear and things are really starting to scare you.  Not only are scary movie scenes upsetting you (I had never before thought of Toy Story 2 as a scary movie!), but things are too.  Especially Christmas decorations.  You’re scared of a Santa wall hanging that Nana made, but you’re also  really scared of doll like items.  Your scared of a Christmas doll that I have and of all of Nana’s angels. You really don’t like them because according to you they’re flyers.  Poor Nana, every time we go over you want her to take half her decorations down!  Needless to say we’re not thinking about taking you to see Santa this year!

I’m so excited that December is here! We have a lot of fun things going on this month. I’m sure I’ll have a lot of fun stories to share in next months letter!
