Letters to My Son - August 2013

August 3, 2013

Dear Nick,

Well we have less than half the summer left.  I cannot believe how fast it has been going.  We didn’t even do anything special in July, and yet it’s already over.  Much of the world had some excitement last month with the birth of Prince George though.  Now I know you have no clue who that is at this time, and I’m sure his birth will never matter to you, but I thought it was kind of cool.  I’ve always thought that Prince William and Kate were just the cutest couple.  You know I’ll never forget their wedding anniversary because they got married on your due date.  You came before your due date, so you were technically there to see their wedding.  I’ll never forget getting up early to feed you and watching their wedding while I did.  If it hadn’t been for you I never would have gotten up to watch it live though!

Cleaning

The weather this month has been nuts.  Highs have been any where from the upper 90’s down to the mid 60’s (I didn’t like those days), and it was pretty wet.  Still we were able to get out quite a bit this month.  You love going to play at the park, so we’ve been doing that a lot.  You’ve also started to like your bike, so from time to time you like to go for a ride on it.

Going Down the Slide

You’ve been amazing us this month with how smart you are.  You’re really good with your colors, and you often point them out.  You also are starting to be able to recognize your letters.  We always right Nick A. on your stuff for daycare since there is another Nicholas (that looks just like you) in the toddler class.  When Daddy wrote your name for you the other day you told him that he had forgotten the “A.”  You also can count up to twelve although you often skip five and instead say six twice.  I have no clue how you can do that, but I think it’s just adorable.  At one of the parks where you like to play there are some really low monkey bars that are meant to be climbed on.  You like us to hold you so you can grab the bars and, more or less, crawl across the top.  You like to count to the next number each time you grab a new bar, and you started to do that all on your own.

Looking at His Cars

One thing I love is that you are becoming so expressive.  You are constantly making big cheesy grins at us, or staring at us with your mouth open.  Of course you start giggling like crazy after.  You’ve just become so animated.  Your new thing is to say, “cheese,” when I go to take a picture.  Of course being the busy kid you are you don’t hold still until I’ve finished taking the picture.

Helping with Laundry

I know you supposed to be in the “terrible twos,” and I can’t say you haven’t had your moments, but you’re just so much fun right now.  You’re also starting to really play with your toys.  Every night before bed we have to play cars.  We take your Lightning (or McQueen as you call him) and Matter cars and make them drive around the railing of your crib.  Every so often and stop and make your car say a bunch of gibberish to mine, but then you’ll tap your car on top of mine (no clue where that came from) and say, “Let’s go!” and we start driving again.  You’re talking also improves by leaps and bounds almost every day.  You still babble, but for the most part you actually tell us what you want, and that makes life easier for all of us!

Love,

Mommy

This “Letters To My Son” post is a new post that I will be featuring the first Friday of every month.  It is part of a circle of posts written by other wonderful mommy bloggers.  Each of our letters links to a letter on another blog.  If you keep linking from one to the other you will end up back here at Rock-A-Bye Parents.  The next letter in the circle is written by Shell at {Not Quite} Susie Homemaker.  Go check it out!
