A Very Nice Mother’s Day
I can’t believe that my second Mother’s Day has come and gone. We had such a nice day yesterday. The day started off a little dreary, but the sun did come out. We have had many warmer Mother’s Days (last year was quite warm), but the upper 60’s wasn’t bad. The only downer to the day was that Jason had to work and his shift went late, so he wasn’t able to join us for dinner. He brought me home a bouquet of white tulips (my favorite flower), so he made up for it.
For many years my family did the big Mother’s Day brunch scene, but the last few years we’ve scaled things back and done dinner at home. This year it was decided that we would do dinner at my mom’s house since my brother had had knee surgery not even a week before and we knew he wouldn’t be able to move much (getting downstairs for dinner wasn’t even easy). For dinner we had roast chicken with a lot of sides (all egg free for Nick) and Oreo and peanut butter pies for dessert (yummy!).
Nick had a really good day yesterday. The cat wanted us to all get up at 6:30, but even though he woke Nick up too, we all managed to get back to sleep and Nick let me sleep until 8:00. He woke up very happy and his mood really didn’t change during the day. Mid morning he went down for a nap and slept for two hours which was wonderful because it allowed me to make the sweet potatoes for dinner. After he woke up we had lunch and then headed out to my mom’s. He had lots of fun playing at mom’s. During the afternoon we had to take him for a ride in the car to help him take a nap, but he slept for thirty minutes or so which gave him enough energy to be happy for the rest of the evening.
It seems that the Oreo pie gave him a bit of a sugar rush though because he stayed awake the whole trip home from my mom’s (a good 40 minute drive) and then was wide awake and wanted to play when we got home. We finally got him to lay down at 9:30, but he still didn’t fall asleep for another hour. Sadly that meant I had to end the day going to be late and I really used getting to bed early.
All in all it was a really nice Mother’s Day though. It’s still crazy to think of Mother’s Day being my day now.
