Letters To My Son – June 2014

Dear Nick,

Woohoo it’s summer!  OK, so it’s not officially summer, but the nice weather is finally here.  We’re finally able to enjoy going outside again.  Well, at least when it’s not raining.  We’ve been taking walks together, you’ve been playing with your outside toys, and we even got you a sprinkler.  You’re still not sure about getting wet (although you are getting more daring), but you love splashing in the puddles that the sprinkler makes.

I’m sure someday you’ll be annoyed at me for saying this, but you are just so cute right now.  I love watching you play.  You’re finally at the stage where you make your toys act things out and talk to each other.  It’s adorable.  Your favorite toys at this time are your Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (which you actually told someone last week was your favorite birthday present) and your Bucky Ship.  Oh how you love acting out scenes with your Mickey and Jake people.

You continue to amaze me with how much you know.  You have a really good grasp of numbers and counting, and you can recognize a lot of letters.  You also can often say a word that certain letters stand for.  You’ve had a good recognition of shapes for some time, but you blew me away last month when you looked at a shape and told me it was an octagon.  I don’t think I even knew that word at your age let alone being able to recognize one.  You proudly tell people that an octagon has eight sides and that a stop sign is one.  You love telling people things that you know.  I have a feeling your hand is going to be raised a lot once you start school.  You’re very lucky because the daycare you go to is more of a school than a typical daycare, so you learn a lot there.  You are going to be so prepared to start school in a few years.  Mommy’s not going to think about that time yet though!

After so many crazy months this year May was a welcome break.  We did have things to do such as Mother’s Day and a birthday party, but for the most part it was a pretty laid back month.  We got to spend our time together and with the family.  Grandma and Grandpa come over once a week to help watch you so I can work and to help me take care of the yard (I admit it, I’m scared of the lawn mower!).  You’re very lucky that you have so many grandparents that love you so much, and that you get to spend a lot of time with all four of them.  A lot of kids don’t have that luxury, and especially when it comes to great-grandparents.

So far it looks like June will be another quiet and relaxed month like May was.  I certainly hope so because even though we’re only about half way through the year (how did that happen?) I’ve already had enough stress and excitement!
