Ways To Use A Boppy

One of the most popular baby products on the market right now is the Boppy Pillow.  In fact it has been voted America’s favorite baby product nine years in a row.  It should come as no surprise then that this u-shaped pillow is in such demand since it has so many uses.

Feedings

The main use of the Boppy is to help support baby during nursing and bottle feeding.  It can be especially useful for mothers that are breastfeeding.  I bottle fed, but I still found it useful because I didn’t have the strength to hold Nick in the right position for long periods of time (in fact my arm muscles were very sore the first few days after he was born from holding him).  No one else was able to get the hang of using it to feed Nick, but I used it for the first month or so.  After that getting settled with it before I could feed Nick just seemed like to much of a hassle.

Propping

Another use of the Boppy is propped up sitting. When babies are really little it seems like you’re always setting them down in the same spot or two. I liked to change things up for Nick, so I sometimes would put the Boppy on the floor and use it to prop him up. I often would do this if he was awake during my lunch time because then I would sit on the floor near him while I ate my lunch. I found that Nick slipped down a lot when he was in this position though which meant I was constantly repositioning him, so I didn’t use the Boppy for this a lot.

Tummy Time

One of the best ways to use the Boppy, in my opinion, is for tummy time. When Nick was only a few weeks old we laid him on the Boppy for some tummy time and he was already able to hold his head up. Later, when Nick had decided that being put on his tummy was a form of torture, using the Boppy helped make tummy time a little easier for him to handle.

Sitting

Another use of the Boppy is to help babies sit on their own. This is really helpful for when they are at the stage when they can almost sit by themselves, but still tip over without support. The Boppy gives them just the little extra support they need. The Boppy doesn’t give a lot of support though, so they have to be able to hold their torso up.

My Thoughts on the Boppy

I was so excited to receive my Boppy Pillow. I couldn’t wait for Nick to arrive so we could start using it. I’m glad I had one, and I did use it quite a bit, but I think we could have gotten by without it. For me this would have been a good item to borrow from someone else. At the same time though I didn’t breastfeed, so I think that makes a big difference in how useful and necessary I found it. I will say my Boppy held up very well. The outside cover did end up with a few worn spots, but overall it’s still in great shape. I received an extra cover for mine, so I might change to it if I ever have a need to use it again, but it would still be fine the way it is.

The Boppy is a very versatile baby product. We used ours many different ways. While it wouldn’t be my number one item I’m still glad I had it, and I would use it again.

Love that pillow! In fact it is one of my three must haves for a baby (along with the breast pump and the wrap). I actually still use it at times to prop him up for nappy changes.

It really is great, and I agree that it is a must have. I honestly don’t know how we would have gotten by without it.
