Five Essential Home Cleaning Items
This is a guest post by Louise Gallagher
Cleaning divides opinion – some detest even the thought of cleaning and just won’t even comprehend setting themselves the task of doing it. Others however absolutely love it, seeing cleaning as an-almost therapeutic exercise.
Whether you are a lover or hater of cleaning, having certain items to do the job is essential. It’s fair to say that there are some tools that are a must-have, including the following five things.
1) Bleach
Bleach, or sodium hypochlorite as it is technically known, is used for a variety of things, but within the home it works as a disinfectant to kill germs, as well as remove stains, especially white items. This makes it particularly essential in the bathroom, where it is used in the toilet to kill dangerous bacteria, as well as the kitchen where it can be placed down the plug hole to keep the pipes free of grimey build-up.
2) A good vacuum cleaner
Having a good vacuum can make all of the difference when it comes to helping your home feel feel clean and fresh. If you have carpets they can pull out trapped dust and dirt, and if you have pets and/or children then it’s absolutely essential that you invest in the best vacuum cleaner possible. Vacuum cleaners from Dyson are well-known for their suction power and build quality and should be considered.
3) Hand-held duster
Not just any old duster – a hand-held tool allows you to whizz around ensuring that your hard surfaces are completely free of dust with complete ease. If you want to keep things like your television set looking sleek then you will need to dust it on a regular basis, so finding an easy method for doing this is essential. This makes the hand-held duster even more of a vital home item.
4) Anti-bacterial spray
Much like bleach, anti-bacterial spray plays a big part in cleaning but also maintaining the health of you and your family. It needs to be used regularly in the kitchen on the surfaces which are used to prepare food. Things like raw meats and vegetables all come with high levels of harmful bacteria, so a wipe down with a spray of anti-bacterial spray will kill the vast majority of these dangerous parasites.
5) Magic eraser
Something which is still relatively unknown but an essential item for those who already have them is the Magic Eraser. This is a pen-shaped device which is used to clean up marks and dirty patches on your walls. With many an expensive situation saved by clearing up marker pen drawn on the wall by excitable children, most parents will find this a life-line they’ll wonder how they ever lived without.

Louise, you’ve got an interesting article! I must say that the magic eraser is very useful. This is one thing that many parents love because of its usefulness.
Just bought some magic erasers today!!
I couldn’t live without the Magic Eraser. I’ve used them for many things, but right now… well, I mostly use them to get crayon masterpieces (created by my 2-year-old) off of the wall.
That does not sound like fun!
You’re so right about the duster. I was using a dusting cloth, but now I use that Swiffer Duster thingie. It’s the best! Also, Magic Eraser saved me from having to paint my walls when I sold my last house!
I’ve never heard of a Magic Eraser before! I need one.
i love magic eraser too.
Those magic erasers….pure genius! I’m not sure how they work, but they really work!
