Nick’s First Vacation: Getting Ready To Go (Part 1)

Sharing is caring!

The week before vacation I worked….A Lot!  In fact I had worked a lot since September and it had been wearing on Nick.  He had already been having major separation anxiety problems, and my large amount of work, plus returning to daycare, were not helping his problem.  In return for my large amount of work though I had taken off the three days before our vacation.  During those three days the plan was to clean the entire house, put up the Halloween decorations, and pack.  I was also hopping that spending three full days with Nick would help reduce his clinginess.

Monday

Monday arrived and I woke up ready to get stuff done.  My plan for the day was to clean the kitchen, the bathroom, and to vacuum the entire house.  It was a lot, but I knew it was possible…or rather it would be if Nick cooperated.

I got up at six and just managed to exercise and get a load of laundry in before Nick woke up.  The plan for the morning had also included a trip with Jason to get a new battery for his car (it would die right before our long road trip), but Jason decided to go on his way to work instead.  With the big errand out of the way I decided to put Nick in his toy car and take him for a walk.  He had been pretty fussy during the morning and I figured a walk would do him good.  It was a sunny day, but it was a bit on the cold side.  It made me really ready for vacation so we could have some hot weather again.

After our walk we had some lunch.  Then we played until Nick was ready to settle down for his nap.  Then I thought it was time for me to start cleaning, but I remembered that I needed to get all of the bills set for the rest of the month and early October, so instead I sat down at the computer to do money.  That ended up taking a long time.  Luckily Nick decided to take a long nap, so I was still able to get the kitchen cleaned before dinner.

After dinner I did everything that I could to keep Nick entertained so I could get the bathroom cleaned.  It wasn’t easy, but I did get it done.  He had taken such a long nap though that he was loaded with energy.  Eventually I got him settled down for bed, although it wasn’t without a fight.  That night was the second one in a row that he fought bedtime which isn’t like him.

Once he was settled down I went downstairs and got a start on the vacuuming.  I didn’t get a whole lot done since I kept having to go upstairs to clam Nick down, but some was better than none.  I eventually decided to throw in the towel for the day.  Then I took a shower and fell into bed.  I hadn’t gotten everything done that I had wanted, but I felt that I wasn’t doing too bad.
